Your Light Still Shines – A Night of Remembrance, Awareness & Hope

Talking about Substance Use Disorder isn’t always easy, but it’s one of the most powerful ways we can make a difference. Open conversations break down stigma, build support, and remind those who are struggling that they are not alone.

That’s what the “Your Light Still Shines” event is all about.

📅 Thursday, August 28, 2025
🕔 5:00 – 8:00 PM
📍 Lincoln-Way West High School
21701 Gougar Road, New Lenox, IL

This annual event honors International Overdose Awareness Day by bringing our community together to remember, learn, and support those affected by substance use disorder.

✨ What to Expect:

- Powerful personal stories from those impacted by substance use
- Interactive exhibits like “Hidden in Plain Sight” Trailers
- Over 30 local organizations offering resources for prevention, treatment & recovery
- A memorial area to honor loved ones lost to overdose
- Narcan myth-busting & education
- Raffle prizes to close out the event

Whether you’re supporting a friend, seeking resources, or simply showing up to learn, you are part of the solution. Let’s come together to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and offer hope for healing.

📞 Questions? Contact Alaina Murphy at (815) 462-6417 or amurphy@newlenox.net.

💜 We hope to see you there. Your light still shines.

Please join us in congratulating Chief Terry Lemming of Beecher PD on his retirement!

Chief Lemming has been an unwavering advocate for community health and safety, and his impact is immeasurable. From his dedicated service to the coalition to his visionary leadership in creating the Opioid Subcommittee, his work has helped shape local prevention efforts and save lives.

In honor of his outstanding contributions, Chief Dan Jungles of the Will County Sheriff’s Office presented Chief Lemming with a Certificate of Appreciation on behalf of the coalition and the board. Chief Lemming also requested a picture with his best buddy, Chase, the Will County Sheriff Office comfort dog.

Thank you, Chief Lemming, for your passion, leadership, and years of service. Your legacy will continue to inspire all of us in the fight against substance use.

Happy First Day of Summer!

The sun is out, the days are long, and adventure is calling! As we kick off the season, let’s make it one to remember—for all the right reasons.

💧 Stay Safe, Stay Smart:
Summer fun doesn’t have to involve alcohol or other substances. In fact, the best memories are made when you’re fully present and in control. Whether you're hitting the trails, diving into the lake, or just chilling with friends, you can have a blast while keeping your health and safety top priority.

🌊 Healthy, Substance-Free Summer Activities:

-Go for a swim or kayak at a local beach or lake
-Try sunrise yoga or a nature walk
-Join a local sports league or outdoor fitness class
- Explore a new hiking trail or biking route
- Visit a farmers market or try cooking a fresh summer recipe

This summer, choose connection over chemicals, movement over monotony, and wellness over risk. Let's make this season our healthiest and happiest yet.
