Today I’ve been reflecting on how thin the line can be between pushing ourselves and punishing ourselves.

Too often what we call “discipline” is actually self-punishment in disguise. We skip meals when we’re busy, sacrifice sleep to be productive, or speak to ourselves in ways we’d never speak to a friend.

True self-care isn’t just bubble baths and face masks (though those are lovely too). It’s setting healthy boundaries, giving ourselves permission to rest, and treating our mistakes as opportunities to learn rather than reasons to criticize.

I’m learning that being gentle with myself doesn’t make me weak—it makes me sustainable.

# When You’re Accidentally Mistaken for a Champion 💪

Okay so the WILDEST thing just happened at the gym today. I was in the middle of my workout, completely in the zone, when this guy walks up to me.

“I’m sorry to bother you, but I just had to say something. When I saw you out of the corner of my eye, I literally thought you were Ronda Rousey.”

Y’all. ME. RONDA ROUSEY! The UFC champion and Olympic medalist!! 😱

Took that as the BIGGEST compliment! Been putting in those hours and I guess it’s showing! Not quite ready to step into the octagon, but definitely feeling stronger than ever.

This picture is from 10 years ago—lean, defined abs, peak shape. Back then, fitness was my main focus, and my body reflected that. But life has a way of shifting priorities.

Since then, I’ve been through a divorce, watched my daughters grow into teenagers, and had a new baby later in life (which is its own kind of challenge!). Add in the stress of nursing and running a business, and my body looks different now. It’s easy to compare myself to the past, but here’s what I’ve realized: that version of me isn’t better—she’s just different.

Now, my strength comes from balancing motherhood, a career, and my own well-being. My goals have changed, but my commitment to being the best version of myself remains. I may never look exactly like I did back then, but I can still push myself to be strong, healthy, and confident now.

If you’re struggling with body changes, know that acceptance and growth can coexist. We can appreciate where we are while still striving for more. I’m on that journey too.

Increase Vitamin E and lose more weight!

Yet another reason for you all to stop counting calories and cutting out foods! According to a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the most marked drop in dieting women was Vitamin E! This is of particular concern for active women because of the crucial role it plays as an antioxidant in the human body. Its immune boosting properties are essential to recovery from hard workouts because essentially you are causing stress to the body by making those microscopic tears in the muscles etc..It is absolutely needed to prevent OTS and DOMS since it has natural anti inflammatory properties as well! Due to the fact that Vitamin E rich foods are few you must eat a well balanced diet to obtain it...Here are some foods to include in you daily routine...in order of Vitamin E richness...
1. Wheat Germ 1 Tbsp
2. Almonds 1oz
3. Sunflower seeds 1oz
4. Olive oil 1 tbsp
5. Spinach 1/2 cup boiled
To get the best bang for the calories sprinkle wheat germ on your oatmeal in the morning unless of course you have celiac disease.

Turn it up Tuesday!!! Keep these POST WORKOUT snacks on hand!

The Key is to have a higher protein to carb ratio...you DO NOT need alot of protein to build lean muscle so don’t go overboard...this is a mistake I see many fitness enthusiasts make is they take in too much protein which gets turned into fat if the body cannot use it for energy just the same as any other nutrient. The problem with protein tho, is that it creates a nitrogen imbalance with can lead to a whole slew of other complications. Higher carb to protein ration pre workout and higher protein to carb ration post...
Try these quick snacks!

1. Peanut/almond butter on brown rice cake with half banana sliced on top
2. Hummus and Pita (I like “Josephs” brand
2. Plain Greek 2% yogurt and berries...this time of year I buy ‘Wymans’ blueberries and raspberries!
4: Apple slices with cheese and turkey
5: protein shake: shoot for at least 25 gms!
