Today is International Self‑Care Day and a global reminder to treat self‑care as a daily habit: 24 hours a day, 7 days a week 🎯

There are actually 8 categories of self-care! These include physical, mental, emotional, social, professional, environmental, spiritual, and financial wellness.

Try one small act today like journaling, taking a pause, or offering yourself a kind word. Self-care isn’t selfish or about indulgence, it’s essential. 💚

Feeling nervous? You're not alone! Here are 4 powerful questions to help you regain control:

1️⃣ Is my worry based on facts or assumptions?
2️⃣ What is the worst that could happen, and how likely or realistic is that?
3️⃣ Have I felt this way before, and what has helped me manage it?
4️⃣ What is something I could do right now to lessen my nerves?

Take a moment to reflect and empower yourself! ✨

Sometimes what feels like stress or fatigue is your body asking for water! Your brain is about 75% water, so when you're low on fluids, you're more likely to feel foggy or moody.

Be kind to your brain: hydrate regularly 💧

Your feelings matter! 🌟

You are allowed to make a big deal out of things that are important to you.

July is Disability Pride Month!

This month, we celebrate the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990, a landmark legislation that transformed the lives of millions. Did you know that over 1 in 4 U.S. adults identify as having a disability? Yet, this vibrant community continues to face underrepresentation and misrepresentation in media.

This year, the theme for Disability Pride Month 2025 is "We Belong Here, and We're Here to Stay." Chosen by a national group of people with disabilities, this theme echoes the strength and resilience of the disability community while highlighting concerns about threats to disability rights and services. Everyone deserves to feel like they belong.

Join us in amplifying accurate, nuanced, and inclusive stories about disability identity, civil rights, and the ongoing barriers faced by many. Together, let's ensure that every voice is heard and that we work toward a future where all individuals can thrive.

Let's talk about mini goals! 👇🏻

A mini goal is a small, achievable action you set with intention, usually for a single day or week. These goals are designed to be manageable and realistic. Unlike long-term goals, mini goals help you build confidence, create momentum, and make meaningful changes without feeling overwhelmed.

✅ Keep it small: Aim for something you can reasonably accomplish this week, even on your hardest day
✅ Make it specific: Instead of "be healthier", try "take a 10 minute walk 3 times this week."
✅ Connect it to mental wellness: Focus on goals that support rest, regulation, connection, or self-compassion.

Happy ! As we continue to honor BIPOC Mental Health Month, there’s a special organization based out of Detroit with a beautiful initiative to help transform pain into power, Detroit Heals Detroit. Since 2018, DHD has been youth-led in creating healing spaces in the city where Detroit youth can practice restorative healing from harm caused by systemic oppression and generational trauma. This is achieved through engagement programs like summer camps, the Healing Hub space that offers community support by helping youth meet their basic needs, and promoting skill-building to disrupt the systems that continue to harm! How cool is that?

In our fast-paced world, finding balance is crucial for mental health. Carving out moments of stillness—through mindfulness, exercise, or time in nature—helps us recharge and build resilience.

By setting boundaries and embracing small pauses, we can cultivate harmony and improve our well-being. Remember, even busy days can benefit from a few mindful moments for lasting peace. 💚🤍

July is Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month!

This month honors the legacy of Bebe Moore Campbell—an author and advocate who worked to raise awareness about the mental health needs of historically underserved communities. Mental health care is not "one-size-fits-all."

Communities of color often face unique barriers, including cultural stigma, limited access to care, and the impact of racial trauma. Campbell championed culturally competent care and the power of lived experience to drive change.

Join us in recognizing the importance of mental health equity:

• Share stories that reflect diverse voices and experiences
• Use hashtags like and
• Support local mental health initiatives and community events
• Advocate for accessible, inclusive services

We all have an inner critic 🗣️ It's that voice that says we’re not doing enough or not good enough.

This Mindful Monday, try naming it. Giving your inner critic a name helps you step back and recognize that those thoughts aren’t facts.

You're not your inner critic. You're the one who can respond with compassion instead.

What would you name yours?

Why We’re Here

The Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeastern Michigan is an interfaith pastoral counseling center. This means that we provide counseling and psychotherapy that integrates the best in psychological and psychiatric theory and practice with the resources of the client’s religious/faith tradition, if the client wishes to do so. Pastoral Counselors utilize a holistic approach in their counseling. Giving attention to intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual dimensions of personhood. An important ingredient which makes pastoral counseling different from other forms of counseling and psychotherapy is the conviction that life’s crises and transitions are best met by both the wisdom of religious teachings and the knowledge and skills of the human sciences, such as psychiatry and psychology. Samaritan Counseling Center offers counseling and psychotherapy in many forms, for many needs, such as: Individual Counseling; Couples Counseling; Family Therapy; Grief Support; Anger Management; Coaching; Educational Services; and other Therapeutic Offerings.
