OARSI is the premier international organization for scientists and health care professionals focused on the prevention and treatment of osteoarthritis through the promotion and presentation of research, education and the worldwide dissemination of new knowledge. Strategic Goals of OARSI
The OARSI Board of Directors held a strategic planning session in early 2011 and the following goals were identi
fied:
To increase OARSI visibility
The society will develop a stronger presence in the field of OA through guideline development, conferences, products and mentoring of younger investigators. We will identify the different stakeholders who have an interest in OA and develop a plan to reach these audiences. Develop, disseminate and exchange knowledge in OA research and care
This will be accomplished through workshops (Imaging) , Congress, journal, symposia with related organizations and the upgrading of the website. Other OARSI products include the private networking site (OARSI Community) and the Primer on OA. To advance research and treatment for OA
OARSI has developed treatment guidelines which are currently being updated. In addition, we are working with the Foundation for NIH on a multiyear Biomarker Initiative. We will begin prioritizing an osteoarthritis research agenda. To develop and foster strategic alliances
OARSI has held symposia in Asia with local societies . We have also worked with PANLAR, EULAR, ORS, the Arthritis Foundation and many other societies and will continue to develop relationships with governmental agencies and societies. To maintain financial stability
OARSI is in good financial position and as of December 31, 2010 we had 94% of one year’s operating expenses in reserve and we will continue to be good stewards of OARSI funds. To develop international outreach
OARSI will continue to reach out to Asia, Latin and South America to develop symposia and translate and disseminate the treatment guidelines.
