Pain relievers and anti-inflammatories don’t have to be a part of your routine as an endurance athlete.💊
In fact, we’d go further and say that they shouldn’t be.🚫
Here are a few reasons why-
1. NSAID use before/during long distance events has been shown in the literature to lead to increased levels of creatinine- an indicator of acute kidney injury.
2. NSAIDs slow down the production of prostaglandins, biochemicals that jumpstart the pain and inflammation process- a necessary component to muscle recovery and muscle building.
3. NSAIDs are linked to increased risk of heart attacks in people both with/without a history of heart disease.
For a long time, NSAIDs have just been considered a normal part of training. But it’s important to dispel the myth that they’re no big deal.
At Driven Physiotherapy our goal is to help you move beyond pain and injury 💥without meds💥–
And in the process learn and implement concepts that will lead to long term progress and success.
