“When I was diagnosed with leukemia, I knew I would need a bone marrow transplant, and that meant spending 100+ days at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City.

Thankfully, caseworkers at KU coordinated a stay for my brother (my bone marrow donor!) and me at Hope Lodge. What a blessing it was to have one less thing to worry about while navigating this ‘little bump in the road.’” – Kim B.

For 25 years, Hope Lodge – Kansas City has been there to help cancer patients refuel, recharge, and keep moving past the bumps in the road. 🛣

As we begin our transition back into the newly renovated space in the Hope Lodge, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the volunteers that showed up for our guests to provide meals and host activities. We began this renovation phase last Oct and during this time our guests have been without kitchen access, so no stoves, dishwashers, or sinks. By having amazing volunteers step up to provide homecooked/catered meals and bring snacks during activities allowed our guests to have have something other than microwaved meals. We are so excited for all of you to continue providing meals and hosting activities, but now you will be able to prep, cook, and serve in our new kitchens/dining room. You helped make the last 10 months a little easier for our guests. We couldn't have done it without you.

“My daughter, Patsy, was only 34 when she was diagnosed with colon cancer. She died three years later, leaving behind her husband and three young kids. Then, two years ago, my husband died suddenly from cancer. We didn’t even know he had cancer until it was too late.

After our daughter passed, my husband and I started volunteering at Hope Lodge – Kansas City. After my husband passed away, I became a volunteer driver for Road To Recovery. I just want to give back to others who are facing their own struggles, to help where I can.” – Sandra H., Overland Park
