✨️GRADUATE SPOTLIGHT✨️
Taylor Thompson is our final graduate spotlight of the summer! After graduating from UNC Rex residency, she completed a PGY2 Oncology Residency at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. Taylor attend conferences such as NCOP and presented in the Top Ten poster session at HOPA! She also taught lectures at Wake Forest's PA school and Campbell's pharmacy school. After residency, she will return to Rex and work as a CPP in the outpatient oncology clinic!🎗️💊
How did your time at Rex help prepare you for your current role?
“My RPD Carson ensured the program was meeting my goals. I knew I had an interest in oncology, so I was able to have both an inpatient and outpatient oncology rotation. I was also able to work on projects focused on oncology, one of which included creating a CPP rotation in our outpatient oncology clinic. Gaining experience in all of these areas helped me to be a competitive candidate for second year residencies. I was able to take the rotation I had created, and that helped me set career goals which I have now been able to accomplish. I am so thankful to have had an RPD who valued my career goals, preceptors who were willing to get me where I needed to be, and co-residents that were a huge support system along the way.”
What advice would you give to prospective residency candidates?
“Think about your goals before choosing where you want to apply, whether that be location, rotation opportunities, or others. If you apply to the places that meet your goals initially, you can use the interviews to w**d out what would be the best fit. I knew Rex had opportunities in oncology and cardiology which were my areas of interest, and also had a staffing model that allowed for work life balance. Once I had my interview, I knew the supportive nature of the program met my goals and I felt like I fit right in! And the match always works out the way it is supposed to!”
Taylor we are so proud of all you have accomplished and can't wait to see what you do next!
