Critical skills! 💥

Our CA2 residents had a great time at one of last month's hands-on simulation sessions–working 1:1 with faculty to sharpen their skills in FOI, surgical airways, and central line placement. Shoutout to Dr. Ben Chortkoff, Dr. Cameron Norris, and Dr. Elizabeth Thackeray for leading the training, and huge thanks to the amazing team at the Center for Patient Simulation for making it all possible!

Nothing says summer like pie, ice cream—and puppies! 🐾 University of Utah Health Farmington Health Center recently hosted the ultimate summer social, and Dr. Orgain & Dr. Pulsipher were lucky enough to join in. CA-1 Orientation ✅ Our newest anesthesiology residents are off to a strong start!

Over the last few weeks, they’ve jumped right in—setting up their tech, getting new scrub caps and books, diving into EPIC training, and learning the essentials through engaging, hands-on sessions led by our outstanding faculty.

A huge thank-you to the faculty, administrative staff, and current residents who made this orientation such a success. We’re thrilled to welcome this talented group and can’t wait to see all they accomplish!

We wrapped up another successful Awake Fiberoptic Intubation (FOI) Simulation Day!

This hands-on training gave our residents the chance to sharpen their skills and practice techniques that support safe, effective airway management in complex cases.

Huge thanks to our amazing faculty—Drs. Steven Bott, Dulce Boucher, Nate Orgain, and Elizabeth Thackeray—and to the Center for Patient Simulation team, Micah Baker and Soeren Hoene, for guiding the session and sharing your expertise. We're just $520 away from reaching our $3,000 goal to bring capnographs—life-saving monitoring tools—to operating rooms in The Gambia.

Capnographs monitor how well a patient is breathing during surgery and are standard in high-resource settings. But in The Gambia, only one-third of operating rooms have access to them.

Together with Lifebox Foundation, we're working to change that. Help us cross the finish line and improve patient safety.
