Meet Jeff Russell, a dedicated member of the Bouma team who’s been shaping the commercial construction landscape for over 20 years. Jeff’s love for carpentry began in high school, where a passion for construction took root in a building trades class.
After getting his career started in residential construction, Jeff found his way to Bouma—thanks to a neighbor’s nudge. He began shadowing experienced carpenters, refining his carpentry skills, and working under job leaders as their next-in-command before running his own jobs. Today, Jeff manages day-to-day operations as a senior leader onsite, ensuring that his projects run smoothly and mentoring the next generation of carpenters along the way.
Though he doesn’t strap on the tools as often, Jeff’s heart is still in the hands-on work. He values the time between projects to collaborate with different job leaders and train upcoming talent, passing along his deep well of knowledge.
Looking ahead, Jeff is has been involving himself in the BIM and preconstruction process to create more collaborative, streamlined projects. While reflecting on some of his favorite past builds, jobs with unique and challenging finishes come to mind: The complex acoustic clouds at the Grand Rapids Christian Auditorium, The craftsmanship involved in completing the Café in the Woods at Woodland Mall, and the prefab exterior panels at the Arcadia Flats in Kalamazoo.
