The College of Pharmacy at Butler University originated in 1904 with the founding of the Winona Technical Institute. In 1914, the pharmacy department separated from the institute to become the Indianapolis College of Pharmacy (ICP). In 1930 the ICP became one of the first pharmacy colleges to create a four-year baccalaureate curriculum. In 1945 Butler and the Indianapolis College of Pharmacy merged, and erected a new building on Butler's campus in 1950. The building, with its fully mediated classrooms and state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories, was completely renovated in 2008-2009. The name of the college was changed to College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences when the Physician Assistant program was developed in 1995.

The Dean’s Priority Needs Fund can also help support students looking to study abroad. For example, Kayla Vaughn was able to travel to Italy for the Heritage, Health, and Identity in the Mediterranean Diet course with Professor Jane Gervasio. She had the chance to make a variety of pastas, eat gelato, ride around on vespas and visit museums. She learned various cultural behaviors around food and eating affect the overall wellness of individuals and so much more! An unforgettable adventure was had. If interested in supporting students like Kayla, you can donate here: https://dayofgiving.butler.edu/amb/bucophs.

PA students go through procedures courses to learn how to perform various medical procedures like learning how to take vitals or perform a physical exam. The PA faculty use these nifty training manikins to teach students how to dislodge items from a patient’s ear, nose, or mouth. These training manikins are just one example of what could be purchased with the COPHS Equipment Fund! You can donate toward this fund here: https://dayofgiving.butler.edu/amb/bucophs.

The Anatomage table is one of the amazing equipment items we use to educate students in the anatomy and physiology lab. The Anatomage table allows students to practice on real human bodies without the need for physical cadavers. It beats having to dissect the Dean! This Anatomage table is just one example of what could be purchased with the COPHS Equipment Fund! You can donate toward this fund here: https://dayofgiving.butler.edu/amb/bucophs.

Attending ADCES (Association of Diabetes Care and Education Specialists) has enriched and invigorated me to continue enhancing my practice and thus passing that along to learners. In the four days of the conference, I attended over 30 sessions on various topics all tied to improving the lives of people living with diabetes. It allowed for me to have dedicated professional time to learn, collaborate, network, and grow as a pharmacist practitioner, diabetes care and education specialist, preceptor and faculty member. - Professor Jessica Triboletti

You can support faculty and staff professional development endeavors by donating to the COPHS Faculty and Staff Professional Fund. This fund allows our faculty and staff to continue to grow their expertise in the rapidly changing environment of healthcare and education. Midyear was such a great learning opportunity for me, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to go! This experience was great for my professional development and networking skills, as well as my presentation skills since I had the opportunity to present my research. I was able to further discern my career path and what residency programs I wanted to pursue, as well as figure out what exactly I was looking for in a program. - Katherine Fonfara ‘25

My time at ASHP’s midyear conference exceeded my expectations in many ways.. I was proud to present the results of my research that support how the collaboration of nurses and pharmacists can improve weight loss outcomes. I strongly believe in the work that pharmacists do and how much of an impact we can have if we are able to practice at the top of our licenses. It was an amazing experience to be surrounded by so many pharmacists and students who believe in the profession in this same way. - Morgan Walsh ‘25

Students traveling to present at a conference is just one example that the Dean’s Priority Needs Fund can help support! You can support future students by donating here: https://dayofgiving.butler.edu/amb/bucophs.

Meet our Nursing Faculty - Program Director Seth Carey and Professor Deborah Spoerner! Seems like they’re having a bit of fun with SAM (Self-assessment Manikin). SAM manikins are used in teaching and learning real heart, lung, and bowel sounds. SAM and other similar real-life equipment items will be used in nursing simulation labs. This is an example of one item that can be purchased with the equipment fund and something our future nursing and current PA students will be learning from.
