The Brightwork Living Story
Brightwork Living was established to provide a personalized homelike environment for people who can no longer live full-time at home. We provide purposeful care, where each person matters. The story of “Brightwork” is symbolic of how we treat each of our valued residents:
“Brightwork” is the term used to describe the wood trim on a sailing vessel. As the wood (brightwork) is exposed to sun, wind and seas, the color of the wood begins to bleach out and soon resembles a worn-down fencepost along some forgotten road.
Before varnish and other wood protectants came along, sailors would sit and rub the brightwork with rags to bring the natural oils to the surface. This action helped to restore the wood to its natural color and shine. The transforming effects of this hand polishing, from bleached and dull to dark and gleaming, are nothing short of dramatic.
We recognize the great love and support that family and friends have exerted all along for those now in our care. Our aim is to effect the wonderful transformation in people who have been exposed to the storms of life, as referenced in the story.
