I always tell clients: « psychotherapy is barely a hundred years old. The Arts are ancient and have been used for thousands of years ».

But if science wants to prove it, sure, I’m to share:

ℹ️🌿 RETURNING TO WORK AFTER A MENTAL HEALTH BREAK: TIPS AND STRATEGIES |

Taking a mental health break is a courageous step towards self-care and personal well-being. As you prepare to return to work, it’s natural to feel a mix of emotions — excitement, nervousness, and perhaps a touch of anxiety. Remember, you’re not alone in this journey. Many of us have been there, and with the right mindset and strategies, you can make your transition back to work smooth and empowering.

First and foremost, give yourself a pat on the back. You’ve taken the time to prioritize your mental health, and that’s something to be proud of. Your break wasn’t just time off; it was an investment in yourself. As you return to work, carry that self-care mindset with you.

Hello Seattle Drama Therapy followers!

I’m back from my August break. I received my certificate in psychedelic assisted therapies in June and I’m in the process of adding new offerings to my practice. I am also excited to announce that I will have an intern from Antioch working with me starting in October.

I prefer to focus on the work itself than the marketing but if you would like to be informed of upcoming offerings and groups, your best bet is to get on my mailing list for Seattle Drama Therapy:

Most offerings continue to be in person but I’m hoping to have a few online as well.

Please tell me what kind of groups or offerings would interest you?

I’m also attaching an article here about the value of art practice for wellness.

I believe everyone deserves to have and practice creativity, embodiment and community. This is what I intend to focus on specifically in the coming year.

Stay tuned!!

(PS: no AI was used in this post and my commitment to not use AI for writing or art is steadfast)

When life unravels, resilience isn’t just about grit—it’s about creativity. Discover how everyday acts of imagination can transform pain into meaning.

An important reminder and article.

Here is an interesting poem I enjoyed reading this morning:

There’s no “sass” in “dissociation.”
by Douglas Kearney

three feet behind my grin I speak
so seems my teeth is down for it
but it’s a make-do I do.
I DM P. L. Dunbar on some
whatchu mean “we?” no—
really, though. the rough metric
opening this a lie to make
done the otherwise I say I is.
yet, the we I been subtweets
me—“whatchu mean ‘I?’”—
answer’s off my tongue, so:
authentic, no? where “fine,” “OK,”
“yes” get forged? I split my difference
between here and gone,
a distance of hard words
hissed; presence of the harms’
numb climb: I’m fine, I’m fine.

Dear men identifying people, I’ll be at Roanoke Park Counseling this Saturday to co-lead a workshop of mindfulness and poetry for healing.
It will be gentle and perhaps even fun?!
You don’t have to be a writer or see yourself as artistic to participate. That’s not the point. Experience with mindfulness or meditatation is also not required.
The point is that the “body keeps the score”… and when we invite our bodies to slow down with creativity and openness, we sometimes get to touch our own hearts in ways that talk therapy isn’t always able to reach.

I love this work, I love working with survivors and I promise you, you will not regret joining us.

This day-long workshop is designed for male-identifying adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse to gather with other survivors in a day of reflection and poetry to o...

I love Sarah Peyton’s work and her ability to name what is needed at the collective level. I highly recommend her books and workshops as well as following her on social media where she shares so many free resources such as these daily videos.

An Embodied Guide to Navigating Our Nation's Upheaval and Racial Reckoning

Some would say I should be neutral as a therapist. Neutral is an illusion and an ideal that was created by white people for white people.

Psychotherapy is about 200 years old. The arts and the practices I am grounded in are ancient. I have faith in these modalities and I embrace and respect their evidence based on thousands of years of global collective lived experiences.

We can all benefit daily from the simple yet challenging practices of art making and embodying our inner and outer spaces together in community.

Watch this space for changes in the structure of my practice. As I change, learn and grow and as we navigate this unstable climate together, it is my intention to continue to provide services that reduce harm in the world. I want to continue to foster authentic healing that is accessible to all. I think we can not only survive these times, but also thrive.
The harms we cause as a culture harm us all. Let us find new ways, unlearn, learn from the past and act daily through practices filled with the arts, community and love.

There is a lot of conversation going on in racial justice circles about the role of white folks in racial justice work, and there are a lot of different perspectives on the matter. One important question that has emerged is not simply, “What should white people do for racial justice?” but, “Ho...
