In the full swing of Midsummer

Can you believe it?

We are almost to July, the seventh month of the year! Where June marks the half way mark and the transition into summer in many parts of the world, July is a month of true SUMMER for us here in the USA. It is a month filled with sunshine, celebrations, and summer activities!

The Summer Solstice is the longest day of the year with the shortest night. It is the time of warm evenings and if your lucky or in the country you might even get a glimpse of fireflies aglow. It is a time of sun, fire, warmth, and bounty of the land.

Midsummer has been observed in many cultures around the world from the Greeks, to the Romans, Celts, Norse, Aztec, Maya and more. Different cultures celebrated this time in their own ways as the Sun provided life for the Earth.

We in South Carolina celebrate in our own way this season of bounty. The tomatoes are beginning to ripen in our gardens and the first of the summer harvest is well on its way. Some of us might enjoy lake days or beach days as warm weather beckons us to seek out water. Perhaps some of you prefer bon fires or camping with marshmallows. In some ways it can be seen as a tribute to customary fire festivals from ancient times of our ancestors.

However you celebrate your perfect version of summer remember to give thanks for the warmth of the sun, the special harvest of the season, the beauty of all the flora and fauna and for the Earth. For without the planet and the sun we would be lost.

Live Healthy. Be Healthy. sends a very special day Father's Day wish to all fathers. We hope you enjoyed your day and got to spend it how YOU wanted to. We thank you fathers, dads, daddys, granddaddys, grandfathers, pops, pop pops, papaws, paw paws and all the other father and grandfather names. Your love for your family is strong and we are grateful for the many ways you give, love, share and protect your families.

We also send love to all those who struggle with Fathers Day and give extra support for those that find this to be a hard day. We see you.

-Fathers whose child or children have passed away
-Fathers estranged from their kids
-Those who were adopted
-Those who do not know their fathers
-Fathers of adoption loss
-Death of a parenting partner
-Fathers who struggle with fertility with partner
-Pride fathers
-Those who have lost their Father(s)
-Those who are estranged from their Father(s)
-The passing of someone who was like a Father
-All the other ways that Fathers day hurts

We can not claim to be licensed therapists, but we are family here. If you need someone to talk to, our team here would love to share a cup of coffee or tea with you and some time, please reach out. We love you!

June and July share some pretty important holidays. We like to wish all a happy Juneteenth and Pride month in June and a happy Fourth of July in July. Some celebrate all, some celebrate none, but we welcome everyone and want to share our love with all cultures and people!

Blessed sun, we greet your rays

upon the sacred solstice day.
Welcome be your warmth and light,
bringing day out of the night.
We greet the dawn with joyous heart,
and so Midsummer now does start!

What are ways we can honor the season around us and enjoy summer? Well, I'm glad you asked!

Some fun summer activities for the introvert can be...

1. Sitting outside and feeling a evening wind, or perhaps listening to a distant summer thunderstorm. Maybe listening to the sounds at dusk, of the crickets, or the last of the 17 year cicadas, or watching fireflies come to life.
2. Making a summer drink for you or family such as lemonade, blackberry tea, or if you feel a little bougie perhaps a summer sangria.
3. Herb crafting - whether it be a wreath or bundle of herbs, creating a home made tea or potpourri sachet. Collecting and getting your hands into the earth is a great way to enjoy the season.
4. Enjoying a good sit by a firepit, perhaps with a good book.

Did you happen to catch something above? Each activity correlated to a specific element - Air, Water, Earth, Fire. It's amazing how little thing can represent something much larger and how our daily fun activities can incorporate the earth and giving thanks for the planet we inhabit!

Some fun activities for the extrovert can be...

1. Taking a nice drive with some friends or family - windows open for bonus points, adventuring to somewhere new.
2. Tubing down a river with some friends or family. How fun would it be to take some time just to relax on the river, lemonade in hand.
3. Getting some kiddos or friends together for an afternoon making pinecone suet feeders for the birds. It maybe a kid activity, but its still a fun one for adults too! Get the girls together for an afternoon of getting peanut butter and pinecones, seeds and some good creative time!
4. Gathering friends together for a bonfire or firepit in the back yard. Maybe grill out and share some in on some fun together with some backyard games.

So,

What is . . .
Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that induces a state of focused attention like meditation, heightened suggestibility and deep relaxation. During hypnotherapy you enter into a hypnotic state of mind where you are in full control of your mind and body and the facilitator can help guide you into a trance-like state, where you can access your subconscious mind. This state allows you to explore and address underlying thoughts, feeling and behaviors making them more receptive to positive suggestion and therapeutic intervention.

Want to stop smoking? We can help! Want to stop nail biting? We got you! Want to explore and find more joy in life? We are there for you! Want to learn about your past and how it affects your present? Learn more by talking with Melody. We are here to help you grow!

BRINGING YOU SOME REMINDERS:

We wanted to remind you of some things in our policy here at Live Healthy. Be Healthy. and Fresh Feet Foot Care. Some of the rules have started collecting dust bunnies and it's time we dusted them off and brought them back out 🙂
1. We have no receptionist
We will try to get back to you as soon as we can but we do not have a full-time receptionist. If you call on or after Thursday, you may not receive a call back till the following Monday. Fear not good friends! We will return your call but we ask for your patience with us.
2. We still have a cancellation policy
If you cancel your appointment less than 24 hours in advance you WILL be charged for the appointment and that invoice will need to be paid before you can book your next appointment. We don't want to be mean, but this takes away from others who could have the appointment and it means empty spots in our booking. Let us be kind to each other and remember to secure and hold our appointments times.
3. We still have a late or no call, no show policy
If you are more than 15 mins. late or if you no call, no show to your appointment you will be charged for your appointment. It kind of goes without saying, but we do reserve the right to charge for not showing up. This also takes away from others who could have the appointment. We will be more than happy to reschedule you, should you need us to, but please remember our cancellation policy as well. To call to cancel or reschedule just call: 864-243-8614 or we do the texting too! Just give us a text at 864-362-6332! We appreciate YOU as our clients and want to make sure that respect is had on both sides! Thank you for your understanding!

Looking forward to Healthy. Happy. Hydrated. Summer!

May. A month of Remembering!

Hold up a minute! How did it get to be May so soon? Well grab on to your hat as we flutter into the GROWING season. May marks the perfect time to pull out the resolution check list (or not), but taking a moment and see how you have BLOOMED this year. What have you succeeded at (GO YOU!), where is it you would like to improve and where would you like to go moving forward! Take a second to jot down some notes and think about your goals. Don't forget to be proud of yourself no matter what. Every step you make is a part of your journey! Whether it is to move or just relax every part of you deserves space and we at Live Healthy. Be Healthy. celebrate every version of you and your journey.

We want to take a moment and give a shout out to all the moms. You are a superhero and definitely deserve a day of celebration. From young moms getting up early to staying up late, to practice drives, school pick ups and drop offs, from the fundraisers to preparing a million different things. It's not easy! To older moms, sending countless thoughts or prayers, worrying about their youngins', helping with gas money or lodging occasionally and sending home leftovers anytime they visit. The long hours, the sleep deprived moments, the hearts of gold. We see you and we thank you.

On this Mother's Day we also send extra love to those who:
~Are grieving loss of their mom.
~Can't be with their mom today.
~Feel like they're failing as a mom.
~Have a complicated relationship with their mom.
~Have a complicated relationship with their kids.
~Are struggling to have kids.
~Are grieving children they have lost.
~Are breaking generational trauma.
~Were disowned by their mom.
~Have an abusive mom.
~Grew up without a mom.
~Are a step-mom who doesn't feel included.
~Or are in any situation that causes hurt of conflicted feelings. We see you. You are loved.

We can not claim to be licensed therapists, but we are family here. If you need someone to talk to, our team here would love to share a cup of coffee or tea with you and some time, please reach out. We love you!

May the 4th (be with you), a tribute to the beloved Star Wars is behind us, Cinco de Mayo came in a flash (we're big fans of Cinco de Mayo), Mothers Day is now behind us andddd our next special days coming up are ... Armed Forces Day and Memorial Day! Memorial Day is more than just the unofficial start of Summer and sales that bombard us from all directions.

Armed Forces Day is celebrated on the third Saturday in May and is the proper day to honor the men and women currently serving. We send a big thanks to all those who are currently serving in the Military!

We here at Live Healthy. Be Healthy. would like to extend a standing up moment of silence to remember, honor and mourn the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Both of these days are very special days in which we recognize the military who are currently serving to protect the United States or have died to protect our freedom. There is still some unrest in the world and there are a lot of debates going on, but let us set those aside and remember those who are currently serving or have lost their lives. It is in times like this I realize I can type this email while enjoying the outside breeze safe in my backyard, and that you can read this doing whatever it is that you are doing, going to whatever is next but you have choice and freedom to do that next step. Some are/were not afforded such luxury and we have them to honor.

We thank those family members for their ultimate sacrifice, many who live in the wake of not seeing their family members or have loss a family member still mourn. We send love to you. Thank you.

MEET THE TEAM

Continuing the new addition to our newsletter we wanted to have you meet some of the team members in our team member spotlight!

This month we are featuring Gail!

Gail is our leg massage therapist with Fresh Feet Foot Care (our sister healing practice dedicated to foot care), and she offers reflexology! Gail has been helping out with all kinds of things at our location on 104 Airport Road so stop in to say Hi and see her smiling face.

WHAT IS . . .
Another new addition to our newsletter we wanted to add is a "What is . . .". Here we hope to bring you new ideas and let you know what we have going on here at Live Healthy. Be Healthy.

So,
What is . . . Reflexology?

Reflexology is a complementary and alternative medical practice involving the application of pressure to specific points on the feet, ears, and hands. This is done using thumb, finger, and hand massage techniques. It involves applying gentle pressure to the feet or occasionally the hands. Reflexology works on energy pathways similar to acupuncture. It aims to relax you, ease stress and tension and help with general well being. Come on in and meet Gail and learn more about this amazing healing practice!

Thanking you for this lovely blooming season and the joy you bloom in our space! Speaking of blooms there is work a foot and a bit of blooming ourselves. We are working on a project and we want to know what kind of flowers do YOU like. You might see them around sometime. Keep a sharp eye out maybe in the next few month they will appear :)

4. You may see a 3-dollar upcharge on your bill
We now have a $3.00 convenience fee for processing debit/credit cards. Trust us, we don’t like it either! Many card companies (square is one of them) are now charging the retailer for the customer swiping the card. We’re not a big fan of it and it is eating into our bottom line. Our solution – lets both “beat the system”, we recommend you bringing cash! We will be more than happy to take that convenience fee off your bill. Mention to us at check out that you want to pay in cash and “take that tarnation fee off”, say it with a smile and laugh though. Let’s have fun with it 😊
5. Give a little, receive a little
We want to appreciate YOU, yes you, our clients for helping us grow! We have a referral credit and we would love to support you for supporting us! If you refer someone and they book and pay for the visit – the new referral will gets 10.00 off their second visit and you too at your follow up! Mention at check out and let us look for the referred client paid invoice and we’ll attach a 10.00 coupon to your next visit and theirs too!

Spring Growth

April is a month of traditions. The Azaleas are blooming, the Master’s just finished up with a second green jacket for Scheffler, and though Easter came early for us this year, we still celebrate a “Southern Living’s Spring” by starting our preparation of pimento cheese, chicken salad sandwiches and of course our beloved pasta salads. Gardeners flock to the seeds and their gardens to start planting the flavors of tomatoes, beans, lettuces and the likes, however Spring brings a bit more meaning than these beloved yearly April traditions we hold so dear.

As nature reawakens to the spring bounty of fresh green growth, flower buds, sunshine, and the ever small hint of garden plants beginning to grow, we are reminded to stop and breathe in the freshness of a new season just blooming. Carpenter bees begin their yearly dance, perhaps a bunny or small chipmunk graces us with its ever quiet presence, birds of all sorts begin to showcase their lovely songs and blackberry vines begin to flower. There is a revitalization in the very Earth and in all her reawakening, and after all, April showers bring May flowers.

We are just plum crazy for you all!

Speaking of websites, we’ve made some small changes to our website and would love for you to tell us whatcha think.

We are excited to bring some new things and ideas and would love our community’s thoughts and ideas to bring wholesome and exciting changes. And, speaking of changes, we have a small few. Recently we’ve been doing some small Spring cleaning. See if you notice any changes to the front of our building next time you visit. More to come! Also we have a new face around the clinic. Next time you're in, give a warm welcome to Gail. We’ll do formal intros soon, but if you happen to see a new face, return a smile and introduce yourself!

A warm reminder to our clients, long time and new, book ahead to secure your preferred appointment time. Our beloved Lisa remains a busy bee and many new clients have to book out yonder (3-5 weeks out) to get in. We remain steadfast in trying to ensure all of our clients receive their preferred 4,5, and 6 week appointment slots. We know many of you already do!
