Anybody noticed how frantically FB has changed just recently? Almost all sponsored posts. I just went down 250 posts without seeing a single person I knew and only 2 people I didn't know. The rest were businesses.

What other social media is good? Instagram?

$500$ REWARD!
I've got an adventure to talk about here. I need some help catching the thieves that stole my chiropractic equipment a couple weeks ago. I'm also offering a $500 reward if someone pings the main item and it leads to recovery.

On Saturday Nov 18 at 3:30 am someone stole my car in front of my house. The neighbors doorbell cam caught the event as a white sedan pulled up to my car at 3:30 in the morning and they drove off with my car two minutes later. Faces and license was not identifiable. They recovered my car in Pueblo, CO although it's damaged and not yet drivable.

I had done a house call for one of my elderly patients that Friday afternoon and was not feeling well so I went to bed about 7 as soon as I was home without taking my equipment out of my car including my high end medical laser. I so rarely do that as I'm hyper aware of where that laser is most of the time. If I walk down the hall in my office for a couple minutes I lock my office door if the laser is in there. But...this time I forgot it in the car at the critically wrong time!

This laser is not something someone can easily sell as it's password protected and the serial number has been reported stolen to the manufacturer, so they can't get the password reset.

In any case I have a tracker in the laser. I pinged the laser on the south end of Colorado Springs a few days after the robbery but could not pinpoint it. Tonight I pinged it again in my neighborhood but again could not get a complete fix on it. The police can't really do anything with the little bit of info I have so far although I've talked with them about it again tonight.

The tracker I have in the laser is an off brand (TallyGo) and only someone who has that app and I've shared the item with them can ping it. Anyone who is willing to help me with this I would greatly, greatly appreciate! This laser is important in my practice and I cannot afford to replace it.

According to my tracker program, I can share the specific tag for my laser with anyone by email. They get a link to download the app and if they get close to my laser it will ping their phone. The map on the app keeps track of the last place it was pinged.

Please text me your name and email or PM me through FB with that info. Text is better for me. 719 337-6633. I will of course protect any info you send. In fact I'll delete it as soon as I send you the link. Keep my number though so you can contact me. I assume this has been tried before. I don't know how likely success is but it's got to be better than my one device riding around. If you are in Pueblo or have friends there please let them know as that's where my car was recovered. $500 Reward if your ping leads to recovery of the laser.

If you suspect a particular vehicle please get the license and description but let the police handle it.

Added a couple birds from a day last spring out on the prairie. Lazuli Bunting and Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

Two aids for Holiday eating. One is get a bottle of charcoal caps. If the food is really making you feel bad take a couple. They will absorb a lot of the toxins or irritants so you stop absorbing them. While foods and some Walgreens have them. Works really well if that's the issue, much better than peptobismal.
The second too is to make sure you're taking a multivitamin. There is a lot of work for the liver to do with all the food and drink. The liver requires a lot of different nutrients to perform all of its tasks. Extra available means you don't get as sleepy and bloated from the liver not keeping up. Lots of water too so what the liver detoxifies can go in out through the kidneys. Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm a big believer in the long term value of good supplements. After following patients over decades the benefits are obvious. The brightness of their eyes, the sharpness of their thinking, the springiness in their step, the health of their hair, skin joints, organs is noticeably better. Most people, however, have a hard time maintaining good supplement habits. I have two "tools" or ways of thinking to help with this.

The first is to have a basic foundation of supplements that you ALWAYS take even if you have dropped some supplements due to budget or just tired of taking them. The foundation for most people is a good multi and fish oil. At least take those. This will vary a little but for most people will be an excellent base to work from. That doesn't mean you don't need other things but keep the basics in place even if you're going through a period of taking few supplements.

The second strategy is to take consistent, short, two day breaks from your supplements. As important as good supplementation is, it's a lot for the liver to process everyday. The body seems to rebel from doing ANYTHING every single day. I recommend taking one or two weekends per month and take no supplements. This will give the liver a break and let it clean house and regroup. One day is not sufficient to get the effect you're looking for. Generally you should feel a little lighter and more willing to continue the supplements. Sometimes the feeling of being "tired of taking so many supplements" is actually the liver rebelling. Please note that this does NOT apply to medications, stopping and starting those is not recommended without a medical doctors advice. Drinking extra water and taking a small amount of liver support such as Silymarin or NutriWest Total Liver Detox will help you clear your system easier on this two day "supplement fast". If you are on significant neurotransmitter precursor support, be cautious with stopping those entirely for two days. If you have to keep the neurotransmitter support in place to avoid extreme tiredness, brain fog or depression, fasting from the rest of your supplements for two days will still help. Don't be too rigid with this strategy, see how you feel. If you're especially disciplined about taking supplements these breaks are even more important for you. If you're someone who forgets some days, just don't take any supplements the following day either to get your two day fast in. Remember, skipping (or forgetting) one day is not enough.

The "REAL" Bulletproof Coffee for excellent brain energy and brain clarity. Please read this whole article.

Here is the the original recipe:
It's deceptively simple but was the result of years of experimentation. It cannot be modified and still get the full Bulletproof effect on energy and brain clarity.

12-15 ounces of brewed coffee
1 1/2 - 2 tablespoons of pasture butter
1 1/2 tablespoons of Brain Octane or "good" MCT Oil.

Blend these together in a blender very strongly for at least 20 seconds. NOTHING else in there. Ignore other "Bulletproof" recipes on the internet.

Notes:
Almost everyone in the USA uses Kerrygold Irish butter for this. It's readily available and is almost completely grass fed. It's also great tasting butter. The unsalted tastes better in the coffee. Sometimes a tiny pinch of salt can improve the taste of coffee but salted butter usually has too much for my taste. Grass fed butter has a slightly different make up than grain fed butter. Grain fed butter, even organic, is often a source of residual mold toxins from the grain as well. For some even small amounts of mold toxins can cause very negative brain effects. Coffee is also a common source. If you like the Bulletproof coffee effect, consider getting Dave Asprey's Bulletproof brand of coffee. He tests each batch to make sure it's low enough in mold toxins to not cause a reaction. Bought in 5 pound bags, it's not too expensive and never causes a bad reaction like some coffee will.

Brain Octane is sold by Dave Asprey and is pure 8 carbon chain oil. This is the primary oil which gives the Bulletproof effect. He also sells XCT Oil which is C8 and C10 oils which is also pretty good. The NOW brand MCT oil is also C8 and C10 and it's readily available in Natural Grocers and Whole Foods. NOW brand MCT and XCT don't work as well as Brain Octane but they're pretty close. C12 oil (Lauric Acid) is also considered an MCT oil but does NOT give the Bulletproof effect at all. It is cheaper and often a big part some MCT oils. It is also the largest component of coconut oil which is why coconut oil is not used in Bulletproof coffee. Coconut oil or Lauric Acid absolutely will NOT give the energy and brain clarity you're looking for with Bulletproof coffee.

I strongly recommend use of a NutriNinja bullet type blender. It makes this a very easy thing to prepare and is much more durable than other similar blenders. Get the original stand alone bullet type NutriNinja, not the combination NutriNinja regular blender with included "bullet" cups. Those do not have strong enough plastic. Other brands don't hold up either. You're not technically supposed to blend hot stuff in the NutriNinja either but they do hold up well to it. Hot stuff creates slight pressure in an enclosed system like this so open slowly after blending with it tilted away from you. Regular countertop blenders are much more trouble and take a lot more effort to keep clean and to blend without getting oil on stuff. With the bullet type you blend, rinse off the blades with hot tap water and drink right from the bullet cup. Then rinse the cup for use tomorrow. Run it through dishwasher once in a while or put hot water and a couple drops of dish detergent in and blend. The NutriNinja bullet blender is available at Target, other retailers and online. It should run $60-70 and is worth it. For easy digestion, best effect and best taste this needs very strong blending. It should not have any oily feel or taste at all. This is also an excellent smoothie blender, that's what it's made for.

I also suggest that most days you do only Bulletproof coffee in the morning. This is what will help you stabilize your blood sugar as it trains the body to burn fat instead of sugar. Eating anything or putting anything else in the coffee such as cream, sugar or honey will trigger your insulin system and put you back in sugar burning mode. Usually you will have plenty of energy on just the Bulletproof coffee. At least give it an hour or two to keep you in fat burning mode. Don't be obsessive, though. Take breaks or add some other stuff to the coffee occasionally if you want. Just know that you won't get nearly the Bulletproof effect on those days. Also for most people you need to START SLOW. If your system isn't used to that sudden shot of fat, it can cause distress to stomach or gall bladder and/or diarrhea. Start with about 1 teaspoon of butter and oil and build up Most quickly adapt to it but a few may need some gall bladder support for a little while such as NutriWest GB Plus. It's worth it.

Dave Asprey has two books worth reading on this subject of brain health, clarity and energy. "The Bulletproof Diet" and "Headstrong". They are easily available on the Kindle app and can also be obtained on paper on Amazon I believe.

I returned from Mexico a few days ago and ended up with the famous Montezuma's Revenge the last day I was there. On the plane ride back I was extremely debilitated and in intense pain all over my body. Even my teeth and eyeballs hurt. My brain wasn't working so hot either but I had plenty of time to think about what was going on. The gut infection, very likely a bacteria even though I was very careful eating and drinking there, was producing toxins which I was absorbing into my system and causing my fatigue and pain. I suddenly realized I know what to do for that. When I landed in Denver I Googled "charcoal capsules in Denver" and a nearby Walgreens was the easiest place to get them. I got them and took several. Within 30 minutes my symptoms started reducing and within 2 hours were mostly gone. My diarrhea also immediately started getting better as the toxins were no longer irritating the gut lining so much. The charcoal absorbs chemicals so readily it is a common treatment in hospitals for poisoning. So really what was happening to me, I was being poisoned. Now I will add that I also went to a whole foods and got some intense liquid probiotic containers and was doing that along with the charcoal and that worked better than either by itself. Charcoal should also work for any regular food poisoning. They call it food ”poisoning" because you are absorbing toxins (poisons) from the food. I used Nature's Way charcoal capsules I got at Walgreen's. I just saw a display of 4 different brands of charcoal including "Bulletproof Coconut Charcoal" which is a particularly clean one. I just bought a bottle of that brand to have on hand. Another non-emergency use of charcoal is when you end up eating some not so good food at a restaurant or fast food place as most of us do from time to time, especially when traveling. Take one or two charcoal capsules to keep from being as affected by the lower quality food. Some important cautions on charcoal. It should not be taken with meds or supplements as it will bind those as well and you won't absorb them. If you need charcoal try to take it several hours away meds and supplements. The other caution is that it can be constipating if taken too much. Even with these cautions it is one of the safest and most effective approaches to many gut issues. Also keep in mind that your p**p is SUPPOSED to be black if you've taken charcoal!

Holidays tend to be stressful for many. Busy stress, money stress, family stress, consuming rich food and drink stress, lack of exercise stress. In addition the colder weather triggers a lot of people to stop drinking water, so dehydration stress. A hidden stress factor is that thinking of holidays and family triggers old unconscious patterns. Suddenly that time you fell off your bike or had a bad fever when you were a kid is restimulated unconsciously. That can bring up old physical and emotional pain or tension and you think it's "just stress" because, well, it's unconscious.

No matter what the source, any of this can keep you from enjoying the holidays and being as loving to your family and friends as you would like.

I can almost always help greatly with all this and enable you have a great holiday. Schedule a visit or three during the holidays. It can be your gift to yourself and your family. (719) 337-6633

What do Americans and geese have in common? An odd sentence to start a post about chiropractic. When geese are raised for goose liver pate, they have to be force fed carbs (various grains) for their livers to become fatty enough for good pate. It's not fat that creates a fatty liver it's carbs. The goose would not eat that many carbs on it's own because they would be too full and stop eating - therefore the force feeding (with a funnel).
Americans have a somewhat similar thing happen insidiously. Although American obesity and liver problems have a lot of causes, one factor makes it similar in some ways to the way they force feed geese. When more than a certain percentage of your calories come from fructose of any source whether it's grapes, apple juice or high fructose corn syrup, it tends to shut down the leptin system in your brain. Leptin is what tells you when you're full so that you stop eating. People who have a genetic problem which prevents leptin production are always massively obese. In this current culture fructose is very prevalent, especially from high fructose corn syrup, and some people are affected more than others. With some the leptin is affected so much they literally never feel full. So they don't stop eating and crave carbs. Often this leads both weight gain and fatty liver. This is why so many people find it much easier to lose weight by cutting out soft drinks. Really the trick is to cut out as much fructose as you can. There are several ways to repair the leptin system so you feel full and satiated when you should. It is worth googling leptin and related subjects. Bulletproof.com has some info on this.

DRINK MORE WATER! I know it's a cliche almost but if you're not feeling good, try drinking a LOT of water right now. It's amazing how often it immediately makes you feel better. Not just a glass or one small bottle. Drink a couple of quarts. If you're feeling bad you're often quite dehydrated. It's the first thing to try!

I very often get asked "is _______ something you could help with?"

The answer is almost always "yes probably, come in and see me". If it's an obvious emergency then of course I would say to take care of that first, but I don't get asked in that case. If a patient comes in and needs a referral to someone else I will do that. The majority of the time though I CAN help substantially even if they also need a referral to a different type practitioner. Headaches, hand numbness, blurry vision, shoulder pain, jaw pain, vertigo and many other problems are often associated with neck problems. Sometimes the need I hurts as well but by no means always. The nerves that run from the brain, through the spine and out to the body from the neck can be affected, even if the smaller nerves supplying the joints and muscles of the neck are not.
Lung issues, stomach problems, rib pain and many others can be from upper back issues. Leg pain or numbness, sciatica, sacroiliac pain, hip pain, foot problems, urinary tract problems, knee pain, constipation and many other things can be from low back issues. Again this may or may not be accompanied by low back pain.

The point is, I'm glad to see if I can help with ANY heath problem. If it's not something I can do or you need additional help I will let you know.

I'm going to say something about fasting. In evolutionary terms we are used to periods of partial or total famine, and the body tends to be pretty efficient about things. The body will take advantage of that low intake to reset and clean house. In modern life the body rarely gets a break from constant intake of food and drink and can get pretty backlogged on keeping up with proper maintenance. Various kinds of fasting can temporarily recreate the famine conditions so the body can recover. There are many types, some harder, some quite easy. Just be aware that the body regards this idea with fear that you're going to starve and so there will be emotions that come up with some people. Also if the body is not used to fasting it can get a "detox" reaction where more stored wastes are being released faster than usual and this can make you feel "bad" and make you think something is wrong. With any fast be sensible. If you are diabetic or have ANY blood sugar problems you need to approach this whole subject very cautiously and under a doctors supervision.

Here are a few typical fasts:

1. A water fast. Don't ingest anything but lots of pure water for a period of time. If you've never fasted I wouldn't do more than one day to start or three days ever unless you really know what you're doing and have someone monitoring you. This is the most intense fast but if you're healthy with good blood sugar balance it can make you feel better and lighter very quickly.

2. A juice or Master Cleanse fast have only juice or a drink made with lemon juice maple syrup and cayenne (Google "Master Cleanse"). This is not as intense since you are still getting calories but I still wouldn't recommend more than 3 days unless you are very familiar with doing them and working with a doctor.

4. Protein fast. No concentrated proteins like meat, fish, dairy, eggs for an entire day. This is very easy and can have significant benefits. I recommend this 2-4 time per month. I am a big advocate of good protein with each meal on the other days, however.

5. Supplement fast. I am a huge fan of good supplements and have seen the benefits clearly demonstrated in 30 years of practice. However, that's a lot of concentrated stuff for the body to process all the time and I recommend taking absolutely no supplements for 2 days in a row, at least once a month. If you have a liver support supplement, take a small amount of that on your two day off fast. Lots of water. Again this is very easy and with any type fast you should feel a little better and "lighter" after you're done.

This absolutely does NOT apply to medications. Do not ever stop or start those without the express consent of the doctor who prescribed them.

To state the caution again. Diabetics should not do anything other than the supplement fast without a doctors express okay and supervision. If you suspect have any blood sugar issues at all you also need a doctors advice for anything more intense than the supplement or protein fast.

Do you sometimes have a bad day with lethargy or brain fog, for no apparent reason? Do you sometimes react badly to a meal when it's food you usually do fine with? You may be extra sensitive to trace mold toxins. About 28% of the population genetically and anyone who has had a significant house mold problem can be sensitive to traces of mold in food and drink and in the air. For many this is a delayed reaction and so it's hard to connect it with the actual source. Understanding common sources of mold toxins and realizing that your reaction may be hours or longer after exposure will allow you to zero in on culprits. One mold source I personally was getting was coffee. I switched to a brand which tests each batch for mold toxins and I stopped reacting. For me the reaction to coffee mold was 4-6 hours after ingestion so morning coffee could cause a terrible afternoon using about 1 out of 3 batches of coffee. Once I switched to mold free these reactions stopped. Nuts, especially peanuts and peanut butter, beans and grains can be common sources. Grain fed meat and butter can also be sources as the grain fed to livestock is even more likely to be contaminated than that fed to people. The toxins are often concentrated in the fat. Another advantage of grass fed.

Another lesser known indication you need chiropractic is having your vision not working as well as usual. When I was married, my wife would sometimes tell me she wasn't seeing the television as clearly as normal and she needed an adjustment. I'd adjust her and immediately her vision was back to normal.

I just had a patient just recently that shared with me that visual problems were one of her consistent signs she needed an adjustment. Normally, for her also, vision would immediately improve after an adjustment.

Visual problems are especially common after a whiplash type injury but because there are actual tissue tears and instability that cause chronic neck issues for a while, the visual problems take longer to fully correct. Normally though, as the neck problems are corrected and the tissue returns to normal and stabilizes, the visual problems from the accident resolve. If you or someone you know has vision problems have them come in for a check up. If it is due or partly due to chiropractic problems, it's just a symptom. There is an underlying problem that needs to be corrected.

01/07/2017

Another indicator of chiropractic problems is loss of coordination or strength in the hands. This most often manifests as dropping things when you don't normally. Or perhaps having more trouble opening jars or other tasks. It's not just a "clumsy" period or not paying attention. The nerves in your neck are being pinched, stretched or irritated and you lose coordination and if worse, strength in the hands. If you notice this happening to you, get checked by a chiropractor. Lack of hand coordination is just a symptom, there are more serious underlying problems that need to be corrected.

13/06/2017

Another sign you have some issues that chiropractic could help is stiffness in the morning. This is a sign of weak connective tissue and poor joint health. During the night your muscles relax and do not actively hold joints in place. If your connective tissue (fascia, tendons, ligaments, discs) are weak, then nothing holds joints in place. So, in the morning it takes a few minutes or longer of moving around before joints become more aligned and moving at least somewhat normally again. Chiropractic and proper nutrition can make your mornings go better but far more importantly, being stiff in mornings is only a symptom, not the problem itself. There are significant underlying problems with your health and metabolism that need to be addressed.

08/06/2017

Today I'll talk about headaches a little. Headaches, as common as they are, are not normal. There is some underlying problem. Migraine headaches are a problem with the capillary dilation and contraction in the brain, sometimes triggered by foods, stress or other factors. The capillary dilation is affected by problems in the upper neck and migraines usually respond beautifully to proper chiropractic care.

Most "tension" headaches are also "cervigenic" which means "generated from the neck". The tension you are feeling makes the neck tight, increasing the neck problem and resulting in a headache. These also have a very high success rate in chiropractic, 90+ percent will respond easily.

I've found some headaches are liver related and to treat these successfully involves improving liver function and finding out what's causing liver congestion as well as treating the neck and back. This is not that difficult but needs an approach tailored to the individual.

As I talked about last week, some headaches are from eye irritation from the iris not closing down properly in bright light. Still a neck problem and does usually respond well to chiropractic care.

Who do you know who has more than a couple headaches a year? A proper course of chiropractic treatment can result in that person having few if any headaches anymore and feeling much better in other ways as well. Please refer them to a chiropractor, they don't have to live with headaches or take harmful drugs to mask the symptoms. Headaches are a symptom of a problem, not the problem itself. Let us take care of the actual problem!
