Tool on the playlist today. Why? Because I spent my Friday night after the kids were asleep going down a rabbit hole watching Danny Carey drum videos on YouTube 🤪. It was a good night.

They paired nicely with today’s workout. The goal was work capacity. I might be a little wonky tomorrow with some slight brain fog, but that’s okay. It’s all part of the game.

Here’s a snapshot from the main block.

Complete for 7 rounds. Rest 30 seconds between exercises.

A1 Dumbbell sn**ch 2 reps per arm
A2 Tall plank row 5 reps per arm

90s and early 2000s pop punk is often on shuffle in my workout playlist. Green Day gets skipped the least. Out of all the bands in the genre, blink, Good Charlotte, New Found Glory, etc., they take the cake.

Speaking of medleys, here’s a look at today’s “flush” session. The goal was simple: move some blood, keep the intensity low, and hit a few movements I didn’t get to earlier in the week.

I like to stack my higher-intensity days toward the beginning of the week while I’m fresh. When I come around (see what I did there?), to Friday I’ll plug in circuits like this instead.

Ahh fort miner. The one hit wonder spin of Lincoln park. The ultimate song to snap off your baggy warm up pants(remember the ones with bottons down the entire side?) with enthusiasm during basketball warm ups in 8th grade. Anyway, now that I have you fired up let’s talk about a good way to start implementing power into your training.

One of the easiest low hanging fruit ways to start implementing power is to do a couple sets of something quick and explosive at the end of a warm up. This could be as simple as a set of twitchy jumping jacks or a couple medicine ball throws. This serves the purpose of exciting the central nervous system and elevating potential force production in the following strength sets. It’s amazing to see clients’ mood and energy change once this phase of the warm up is complete. They feel and look ready to play a sport or, in this case, work out.

Now, back to stuffing the bottom part of my cargo pants zip offs into my side pockets and balling out to this song.
