Today at 1150 AM, 911 Dispatch received a call for a 85 year old male trapped inside a grain bin. Immediately mutual aid and life flight was requested to the scene. The patient was successfully extricated from the grain bin after an hour of being trapped up to his neck in grain. The patient was in stable condition at the time of extrication and was life flighted to OSF Saint Francis, our agency could not be thankful enough for the mutual aid and support that arrived quickly and made the rescue a success. A secondary patient was inside the bin but not trapped, the patient was evaluated and refused transport.

OSF Life Flight, Fulton County EMA, Fulton County ESDA, Avon Fire Protection District, Buckheart Township Fire Protection District, Copperas Creek Fire Protection District, Canton Fire Department, Cuba Fire Dept., Lewistown Fire Protection District, Smithfield Fire Protection District, Table Grove Fire Protection District, Fulton County Sheriff's Department, Macomb Fire Department, Bushnell Fire Department, and Life Guard Ambulance, the Salvation Army (Canton, IL), Havana Rural Fire Department for additional coverage and any other agencies we may have missed.
Currently we do not have a Grain Rescue Tube in the Cass-Putman district, which covers the towns of Cuba, Smithfield, Fiatt and Marietta ( Cuba School District of 124 Square miles ). Although we rely on mutual aid departments to help. Time is critical and we are starting a fundraiser for this specialized equipment at a cost of approx $5,000 for the complete kit.
