This is a momentous occasion for the community. Originally named The Houston Negro Hospital, the facility was opened in 1927 to serve the needs of African-American patients.

Upon the completion of an expansion project to add an extra wing to the hospital in 1961, the entire facility was renamed Riverside General Hospital. It closed in 2015.

This revitalization will transform the historic Third Ward site into a hub for safety-net health care services, such as violence prevention, behavioral health and maternal health.
