Meet Linda: Regulatory Affairs Assistant!

Linda has been a valued member of the Miracles In Sight team since 2005! Over the past 20 years, Linda has made a lasting impact through her work—first as a Lab Technician and now as a Regulatory Affairs Assistant.
Originally from out of state, Linda moved to Kernersville with her family in 2004 and joined MIS the following year. Though new to the field of eye banking and donation at the time, she quickly found her passion and has been an important part of our mission ever since.
"I really enjoy learning new aspects of the job and collaborating with my co-workers to improve on a regular basis. It has been a blessing to have the opportunity to be a part of this organization and play a role in improving the lives of others." she says.
Outside of work, Linda is a proud mom to two amazing sons. She enjoys staying active, traveling, eating good food, watching comedies, and spending time with her loved ones! ✨

We’ve been working closely with Shae Studio to bring the powerful story of eye banking to life through the Lawrence B. Holt, MD Museum of Eye Banking. This museum is more than just a timeline of milestones—it’s a tribute to the science of vision, the selflessness of donors, and the lives transformed by the gift of sight ✨

Through interactive displays, historical artifacts, and heartfelt donor stories, the museum offers a space for reflection, education, and inspiration. We’re thrilled to see our shared history come together in such a meaningful and engaging way!

You can help make this vision a reality. Support our capital campaign and be a part of preserving and sharing the legacy of eye banking for generations to come: https://loom.ly/VNzPmj0

Seeing red, white, and blue—and all the beauty that freedom brings!

This Independence Day, we honor the brave men and women—past and present—who have served our country and protected our freedom. Their sacrifice allows us to live, dream, and see the world around us.

At Miracles In Sight, we’re proud to help restore one of life’s greatest freedoms: the gift of sight.

Wishing you a safe, meaningful, and reflective 4th of July 🇺🇸🎆

If you didn't know, MIS offers BrightMEM™ Corneal Allografts provided by Brightstar Therapeutics!

Through its regenerative properties BrightMEM™ is the newest treatment for patients suffering from severe ocular surface disorders and offers hope as a durable solution for patients.

This novel treatment promotes restoration of the cornea’s protective surface. It uses the posterior layer of a donor cornea, Descemet’s Membrane, which creates a new foundation for the ocular surface, capable of supporting the patient’s native limbal epithelial stem cells. 👁️

Meet Mark: Director of IT!

For the past two years, Mark has been leading our technology efforts with a deep background in business intelligence, patient experience, and retail tech. Before joining MIS, he worked in the hospital system and the grocery industry, bringing a unique perspective to our mission. With a law degree and a Master of Science in IT Management, Mark was drawn to Miracles In Sight in search of a smaller organization where IT could have a broader impact. What he didn’t expect—but values most—is the power of the people.

“The team members are the most rewarding part of my job. I was looking for an opportunity where IT had a broader definition, but I’ve found that it’s the team that truly sets us apart. I enjoy supporting the people who impact so many lives.” he says.

Outside of work, Mark prioritizes time with his family and finds balance in creativity and movement—whether he's hiking, lifting at the gym, or writing to unwind!

June is Cataract Awareness Month!

Cataracts - a clouding of the eye's lens - are most commonly caused by aging, with proteins in the lens breaking down and clumping together.

Other factors that can contribute to cataracts include:
- UV radiation exposure
- diabetes
- smoking
- alcohol consumption
- trauma
- certain medications
- genetics

Cataracts are the leading cause of blindness worldwide and can be treated with cataract surgery, one of the most common elective procedures in the U.S.

Be sure to schedule your regular eye exams to detect any early changes!

A Tribute To: Zoey Angel Malensek (Holland)

"Her name Zoey is Greek for life-giving, and Angel was the logical choice to follow that first name. She was indeed my life-giving angel as she gave me purpose in life and changed me." says her mother, Kristina.

"Two days after she died, I saw people commenting on her Facebook how they were worried about her cat, so I created a page for her cat, Zoey Angel’s Cat, King. Instantly almost there were 17k followers and millions of viewers on the content I posted regularly to let people know that her cat, King, was ok. They also got to see when I received letters and other items from orgs like Miracles in Sight. As a result, many people have told me that they have became registered donors. Many also have told me that her page provides daily hope to keep going and not take their life." says Kristina.

Through the gift of donation, Zoey Angel brought healing to others. Her legacy lives on in those lives saved—and in the hearts of those she continues to inspire. 🤍 To hear more of Zoey's story, click here: https://loom.ly/VolOwjk
