NEED MORE CONTACTS? WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!
For our established patients, we are happy to verify your contact lens (CL) Rx and help you order more. If your CL Rx has expired within this last year and you can still see clearly out of the same CL Rx, we will extend your CL Rx for 3 to 6 months, depending on the type of contact lenses you wear. Call our office at (719) 471-1107 to speak to one of our helpful team members!
NOTE: Approval for extending a contact lens Rx will vary per patient and will be determined on an individual basis. We do NOT recommend over-wearing your contact lenses as it can increase your risk of infection.

COVID-19 OFFICE POLICY:

ELITE VISION and Elite Hearing recognize our first priority is serving our patients and community. We will continue to employ best clinical practices and identified by the CDC
and the WHO to ensure the health and wellness of our patients and staff.

It’s important to keep in mind that the majority of COVID-19 cases are mild and only a small percentage of patients will require hospitalization. Currently, care for COVID-19
patients is supportive as there are no medications available to treat this disease.

The CDC recommends these everyday actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19:

• Wash your hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol.

• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough, or sneeze, then throw the tissue in the trash. Then wash your hands with soap and water.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.

The best way to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses is to:

• Avoid close contact with people who are sick

• Avoid touching your eyes or nose with unwashed hands

• Stay home and do not travel when you are sick

We ask that all our patients please reschedule their appointment if they are sick, coughing, or demonstrating any signs of the coronavirus illness. If you are experiencing
an eye emergency and are sick, we ask that you wear a respiratory mask and alert us to enable our staff to ensure that other patients are not exposed to unnecessary risk.

We are temporarily a “no handshake” environment for the safety of our patients and staff.

Thank you for your cooperation in assisting us to employ best practices to decrease the significance of this pandemic and minimize the impact of this virus on our community.

Sincerely,
ELITE VISION and Elite Hearing of Colorado Springs

WINTER IS HERE- Learn How to Protect Your Eyes From the Sun and Snow!

What is photokeratitis and snow blindness?

Photokeratitis is a painful eye condition where the eye has been exposed to UV light, either from the sun or from another source, such as welding. In particular, snow blindness is a common form of photokeratitis where the front surface of the eye is essentially sunburned, caused by the sun reflecting off of ice and snow. Eye damage from invisible UV rays is common in areas of high elevation, including beautiful Colorado Springs, where the air is thinner and provides less protection from UV rays.

Symptoms include pain, redness, tearing, blurry vision, swelling, sensitivity to light, headache, halos or color changes in vision, and/or temporary vision loss. The longer you are exposed to UV rays, the more severe the symptoms and possible damage.

It is important to protect your eyes! Come see us at ELITE VISION to learn how to treat and prevent photokeratitis and snow blindness.

ELITE VISION would like to welcome Dr. Allison Ruehlen to our practice!

Dr. Ruehlen grew up in Colorado and completed her BS in Merchandising at Colorado State University- Fort Collins. She pursued a career in Retail Management for six years prior to graduating from Pacific University (OR) with a Doctor of Optometry degree. While studying at Pacific University, she completed training in dry eye and ocular surface disease, diabetic eye disease, specialty contact lenses, glaucoma, and other ocular disease management.

Dr. Ruehlen is an advisory board founder of Colorado’s Dry Eye Society (CODES) for Southern Colorado. CODES is a society of passionate providers from various complementary disciplines, including but not limited to optometrists, primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, nutritionists, endocrinologists, rheumatologists, pediatricians, cardiologists, and brain injury specialists. She works closely with a group of representatives across the state to organize local events in which to share best practices and education. CODES is dedicated to finding root causes of dry eye, promoting prevention strategies, and developing individual treatment plans to improve patient outcomes. She is also a member of the American Optometric Association, the Colorado Optometric Association, and the Southern Colorado Optometric Society.

She is married to her wonderful husband, Jon. They enjoy spending time with their two kitties, traveling, hiking, and attending sporting events to cheer on the Colorado Rockies and Denver Broncos.

We are excited to have Dr. Ruehlen as a part of our team. She is currently taking new patients.
