It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Esther Cromwell, founder of Avendelle Assisted Living. Esther passed away due to complications from surgery.
Esther’s journey from Sierra Leone to building one of the most trusted names in senior care was marked by vision, courage, and deep compassion. As a woman of color, immigrant, and entrepreneur, she transformed how we care for seniors and inspired others to do the same.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas Cromwell, and their two children, Sebastian and Ellie.
Even in her final moments, Esther was thinking ahead. Her wish was for Avendelle to remain a beacon for entrepreneurs — and a place where seniors live safely, with dignity, care, and love.
We will ensure that we carry that vision forward. Her legacy lives on in every home, every caregiver, and every life we touch.
