Why does society treat labor pain with such reverence—and its relief with such scrutiny?

Turns out, women have been singing, chanting and humming through childbirth for centuries. But can it actually provide relief?

Motherhood 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻

Motherhood is a spiritual practice. It is a crash course in wisdom. It is your spiritual legacy lying in wait for the taking. How else do you suppose mothers always end up knowing best? You do not have to mount a formal spiritual quest to uncover spiritual truths. I have, and it helps me. But you might not. As a mother, you have many priorities. Those priorities are nothing but your practice. If you allow it, being a mother is one of the most amazing, miraculous, mysterious, dignifying, and illuminating things you will ever do.

We are so excited to help spread the word that a new family resource center is a part of our community.

Then Comes Baby New Family Resource is opening their doors (and our Zoom rooms). As Santa Barbara County's only comprehensive resource center focused solely on the many support needs of new and expectant parents, getting to this stage has been a labor of love, passion, determination, and advocacy. So, it's time to celebrate!

Join us on Saturday, November 6th from 10:30pm - 1:30pm to celebrate, have some fun, and bring new and expecting families and the community providers who so passionately support them together.

Kindermusik 11:00 - 11:30
Nursing Bra fittings with the Santa Barbara Bra Lady, 11:00-1:15
Prenatal Yoga with Siddhi: 12:30- 1:15
Crafts for little kiddos
A fun photo booth
It's free to all -- please, spread the word to the pregnant people and new parents in your world -- though we'd be remiss if we didn't shout out our hopes to fund raise a bit for the Then Comes Baby Access & Equity Fund. This fund is designed to support mid-income families in the communities to increase access to care that is associated with a more easeful transition into parenthood.

Do you care about access to midwives, home birth, and birth centers? Please call your California state Senator’s office today and ask them to vote NO on Senate Bill 1237 Dodd - Nurse Midwives. Tell them you live or work in their district and that you care about access to midwifery and this bill applies ever more restrictions.

SB 1237 restricts access to midwives for out-of-hospital care (homebirth and birth center birth) by requiring nurse-midwives to secure written and signed agreements from a physician before they can practice.

While the bill requires nurse-midwives to create collaboration relationships with physicians, there is no requirement for physicians to engage in these relationships.

This restrictive bill maintains the physician monopoly on birth: it’s like requiring an independently owned pharmacy to have to get permission from Walgreens before they can serve you.

We must stop asking doctors for permission to have care with a midwife.

Tell the California legislature to stop policing pregnant bodies! Please respectfully, tell your state senator to vote no on the nurse-midwife, permission from a doctor bill, SB 1237.

Find your state Senator here: findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov

SB 1237 specifically names out-of-hospital birth as “high-risk,” requiring nurse-midwives to secure a written agreement from a physician before they will be allowed to provide care. This “high risk” status, once written into law, could have a future impact on access to care.

Don’t get us wrong – we all support independent practice for all midwives, which was the original goal of this bill. But this bill has gone through multiple amendments - submitted by pro-hospital lobbies that contribute millions to California legislative campaigns - that make access to midwife care worse.

Please call your Senator’s office today so they can hear from you before they vote on Friday, June 26th.

If you have the time, read it yourself: Notice the section about restrictions and permissions for out-of-hospital birth. You can see how the bill has been amended since introduced in February for increasing restrictions and permissions.
