🧬 Muscle = Metabolic Medicine 💪

Forget the scale. In 2025, muscle mass is the new marker of true health.
More muscle means:
âś… Better blood sugar control
âś… Higher resting metabolism
âś… Less inflammation
âś… Lower risk of chronic disease

And no—you don’t need to be a bodybuilder. Just resistance training 2–3x/week can shift your metabolic health in the right direction 🔥

📉 Want to reduce your risk of type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and obesity?
Start building strength—not just burning calories.

Book recap from the last two months:

The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I really like the writing style and was captivated the whole time, but man is this book sad. When I found out it wasn't a true story, I got angry by some of the authors choices. Still, very powerful and thought provoking about the history of Afghanistan.

Think Again by Adam Grant. This was a re read from one of my favorite thinkers of today. I still learn something every time I read this book even though it's my third time through. Highly recommend this to everyone.

Undeniable by Cameron Hanes. Motivating and a good inspiration to remind myself to stop complaining about the things that my knees can or can't do because of injuries and just suck it up and do it. I was already familiar with most of the high performers he mentioned in the book and although I highly respect anyone who hunts with a bow over a gun, I'm still not of fan of people that feel the need to go hunt big game (bears, lions, etc) just for the challenge.

My Next Breath by Jeremy Renner. This is a crazy story. I remember hearing what happened to him in the news but I had no clue how severe it was. It is absolutely insane that he is still alive, let alone that he is back to living almost his normal life. I won't go into the gory details on here, but this guy might be the toughest son of bitch on the planet and his rehab regime was really cool to hear. I wish he had gone into the details of his day to day recovery a little more, just because of my own medical and scientific background and goals of offering the newest technology when it comes to recovery and healing.

"We don't rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training."
- Archilochus

You don't have to lift super heavy weight or run crazy distances, but life is inherently physically demanding and often catches us off guard. Training is a chance to have as much control of outside variables as possible. This is where we can work on specific demands that our body goes through in day to day situations. Whether that's bringing in the groceries, carrying a newborn/ toddler, playing with loved ones or pets, or enjoying a vacation to its fullest potential.

How often are overuse injuries, lack of use injuries, or even "spontaneous" injuries a result of our bodies not being adequately prepared?

đź’Ą Shockwave Therapy for Knee Osteoarthritis?

A 2020 study explored how extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) can help manage knee osteoarthritis (OA). Here's what they found:

🔹 Pain Relief: ESWT significantly reduced knee pain in OA patients.

🔹 Improved Function: Patients experienced better joint mobility and overall knee function.

🔹 Potential Mechanism: The therapy may promote tissue regeneration of the cartilage specifically and reduce inflammation by stimulating cellular activity.

Bottom Line: Focused ESWT shows promise as a non-invasive treatment for knee OA, offering pain relief and improved joint function. However, more research is needed to fully understand its mechanisms and long-term effects.

Muscle isn’t just about looking strong—it’s essential for a healthy, resilient body! Building and maintaining muscle boosts your metabolism, supports joint health, keeps you feeling energized, and allows for independence in your latter years.

But here’s the key: you can’t build muscle without enough protein! Protein provides the building blocks (amino acids) your muscles need to repair and grow. Aim to include a source of protein in every meal—think meats, fish, eggs, Greek yogurt, legumes, and protein shakes. Ideally avoid plant based proteins as they are not as bioavailable, but if you’re avoiding whey and other dairy options because of GI distress or ethical concerns then add them in as it’s better than nothing.

recommends getting .8- 1 gram of protein from the sources above per pound of ideal body weight. This ensures that the body is well nourished and on its way to being Forever Strong 💪🏽

Whether you’re lifting heavy or just staying active, don’t skimp on protein. Your body will thank you!

💪 What’s your favorite protein-packed meal? Let me know in the comments!
