It is the 5th ANNIVERSARY of my second hip replacement. I was blogging at the time and obviously taking drugs (prescribed by my Dr.) when I wrote this GEM about physical therapy from the bodies point of view, hence “The Body Talks.” It reminds me how challenging recovering from any replacement surgery can be.
Old Body, New Parts - A Day In The Life Of A Total Hip Replacement
“Thank goodness somebody will listen to us! It has not even been one week since surgery and she wants us to DO MORE!! HELLO!!! This thing they call physical therapy might as well be called TORTURE!! We've been supporting her for her entire life, to the point that my buddy, "Cartilage", totally wore out. "Femur Head" and "Socket Pocket" liked each other, but they just didn't want to be that close. We had to separate those guys or it would have been bad, bad, bad! But that meant we had to bring in new players. Don’t get me wrong, we’re all on the same team, but NEW PLAYERS!!! She has to understand, that sometimes it takes a little adjusting putting the old guys with the “hip” new guys!
After a proper (but short) burial of "Cartilage" and his "not so supportive" buddies, we found replacements, which brings us to today. It's not easy to find replacements and it's even harder to get them to work together. Head-to-toe we're on the same team but sometimes it doesn't appear that way.
Some of the guys that aren’t so close to the action are actually handling things pretty well. Our first task was “pointing & flexing” the toes and doing “toe circles”! Let me tell you, these guys ROCKED IT!! With such great results she expected similar results when she had us “bend & extend” from the knee. HELLO?! She has to remember some of the old guys, like "Quads", were pushed out of the way to make room to get the new guys in and situated! The "Quads" are a bit offended the way they were handled (or mishandled in their own minds,) and they are still letting her know. Heck, "Quads" buddies "Hip Flexors" are raising a stink too! But to be fair, if she concentrates super hard, we will tighten just a little. Just don't ask for everything all at once!! We'll even bring our buddies the "Glutes" to the party, but man, she's gotta buck up and do all the "heavy lifting"!
Here is where we draw the line though, the "Abductors" still refuse to join the team. They think they are special but they simply move the leg out to the side. They are not even new guys but they refuse to participate. I think her best plan of action is just to give them time. They will come around... eventually!
You know, I don't think she accepted the fact that it was going to be hard to get the old guys and the new guys working together. She wants it on her time schedule but I think she's coming around. She just has to respect us and allow us to set the pace. She has to practice what she preaches, "Listen to your body!" Yea, that's us and we have lots to say! But the bottom line,
We've got this!!
Needless to say, I’M HERE FOR YOU, pre & post replacements, and anything in between. Call/text (623-455-1185) or email (heidikusa@gmail.com) me so we can start TALKING TO YOUR BODY! I agree with the body, WE’VE GOT THIS!
