Because of this year's Patient Wish Program sponsor Bloom Credit Union, we are able to give a resounding YES to every wish, big or small!

Today's wish is also in gratitude to the generous hearts over at Equest Center for Therapeutic Riding, Inc.. Their mission is very near and dear to our own hearts - to improve quality of life for all those they serve! Thank you so much to Kelly, Terry, and Flicka 🐴for making Barb's horse dream come true.

Experienced in horsemanship herself, it had been a while since Barb had been able to interact with these gentle creatures that give her so much joy. The care team knew that horses were part of Barb's story and worked to dream up an experience that would bring a smile right to her doorstep. We asked our friends at Equest if they could help, and they didn't hesitate to jump (gallop?) at the opportunity!

With grass and dandelion treats (Flicka's favorite), pets, and smiles all around, it was a day worth remembering, and one small way we could make this time More About Living for Barb.

A touching experience we will never forget!

In this month's article from Emmanuel Hospice, Registered Nurse Cara Vink touches on how we can remove barriers to care for individuals with a disability, and Mary Ann Sabo shares her own experience when we had the privilege of caring for her brother, Stephen.

Learn more about how hospice isn't giving up hope, and how we can cut through the red tape to get the best care possible for your loved one.

Thank you Lowell's First Look for sharing!

When a loved one with spina bifida needed end-of-life care, one family turned to Emmanuel Hospice to bring him home for his final weeks.

Another Patient Wish fulfilled! At Emmanuel Hospice, we always say that our work is "More About Living", and this story captures just that.

Jan Griffith is a musician, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He has recorded, played live, and paired his own visual art with his music, but engaging with this important part of his life isn't as easy as it used to be. As his favorite guitar has taken on wear over the years, Jan has skillfully repaired it time and again with whatever he happens to have around!

During their visits, his Music Therapist, Miranda, and his social worker, Michele, came to understand how much playing regularly meant to Jan, and could see that his beloved instrument needed some TLC to be playable again. She brought it up to the team, and we got to work to find a solution!

So, Jan's guitar went on a two-week vacation to North Coast Guitar Company, where the esteemed luthiers there got to work. At the top of their field, their sparkling resumes extend to students who have worked with such artists as Paul Simon, The B-52's, Counting Crows, and much more.

They restored this guitar to tip-top glory and didn't ask anything in return, so that Jan wouldn't have to stop doing something he loved.

We are so grateful to know people like Jan, and Russell and Zack from North Coast, whose passion for life brings positivity, precious gifts, and irreplaceable experiences to those around them.

We also want to thank Bloom Credit Union for their generous support of the Emmanuel Hospice Patient Wishes program.

Thanks to our friends at Bloom Credit Union, and their sponsorship of the Emmanuel Hospice patient wish program, we were able to fulfill another wish (need!) recently.

A few weeks ago, as we were set to hit the 90+ degree mark for the first time this summer, we learned that one of our patients was without air conditioning at home. She had already been taking steps to try to remedy this, but her social worker knew that a solution wouldn't materialize in time.

We couldn't let her face extreme heat on top of everything else she was managing.

So, we purchased an AC unit, and a member of the Emmanuel Hospice leadership team personally delivered and installed it to make sure she was safe and comfortable.

Sometimes care is more than treatment, sometimes it's being there, listening, and making sure someone feels seen.

THANK YOU - to the care team members who didn't let this concern go unnoticed and championed this effort, to the whole Emmanuel Hospice team who perform acts of kindness like this daily, and to Bloom, who allows us to say yes to comfort, peace, and support for patients at end of life.

We're so grateful to be able to share information learned along the way, and to pursue excellence alongside our friends at Railside. Together, we can make a difference for those who need our care.

“We hear a lot about what is important to people, such as making family memories, remaining connected to their faith community, eating their favorite meals and doing activities that bring them joy. Our team will design a care plan around the things patients want most.”

Juneteenth reminds us of our history, where we've been, and the work yet still to be done.

The lifelong cultivation of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging is essential to Emmanuel Hospice's work of bringing exemplary care to each and every person we serve, and in striving to create a work environment where all people can thrive as their authentic selves.
