The new hot term for anterior head syndrome or that pain in the neck or ache is “text neck” mostly because of looking downward for extended periods of time. Although this can create cervical (neck) kyphosis or backward bending of the curvature of the neck it’s not necessarily the primary precursor. Most often people suffering from this have an upper cervical misaligned from other trauma in their lives that was not corrected. So these people have been living with their head not sitting on their neck correctly with improper range of motion. This then causes the body to not adapt properly and the constant typing, or looking downward begins to add up and causes the head to move forward to the shoulders and the neck curve to reverse or kyphosis. This changes all the biomechanics in the spine for holding the head up and it begins to create leverage on the neck, upper back and lower back. This creates more stress to the spinal cord and entire nervous system leading to a multitude of symptoms that could ensue…this is where upper cervical chiropractic comes in to properly assess the mal-alignment and provide the proper correction to begin to heal this problem without bending, pipping, twisting or cracking.
