"Kratom: A Legal but Dangerous Substance

Kratom is a plant-derived substance legally sold in v**e shops, convenience stores, and online, often marketed as a natural remedy or energy booster. However, its effects are far from harmless. According to the DEA, kratom acts as a stimulant at low doses and mimics opioids at higher doses, leading to sedation, euphoria, and in some cases, severe psychological effects. Users have reported experiencing delusions, hallucinations, and profound confusion.
The risks extend beyond mental health. Kratom use has been linked to insomnia, weight loss, nausea, liver damage, and seizures. Most concerning, regular users often develop opioid-like dependence, characterized by intense cravings, compulsive use despite negative consequences, and withdrawal symptoms ranging from irritability and anxiety to muscle aches and vomiting.
Though legal in many places, kratom is far from safe. Its growing popularity masks a serious public health threat, particularly for vulnerable individuals seeking relief from pain, anxiety, or addiction, only to find themselves trapped in a new form of dependency."
