A year-long study of the Hadza hunter-gatherers in Tanzania showed that certain gut microbes disappear in one season, only to reappear in the next. These seasonal rhythms are far less common in industrialized populations, where diets are more uniform.

What's the takeaway? Stay close to nature by eating foods in season.

An origen story of sorts.. . The Historical Commission is honoring the 150th anniversary of the first school known as The Public School, and later Central .Middle School. As a volunteer and as a business owner, I have come to see my participation in the Historical Commission to be relevant and for me has been important to fill in some missing pieces of what I may or may not have understood about the community. In addition to my observation of a shared history, I would add to that a view i have come to of an expanded sense of community and creative contribution.

I had been thinking about this post and its content. It was my first post on the "We Grew Up in EP!" Platform.
Hello fellow members of this group. My name is Nancy and I have lived in E.P. since 1997. My husband's grandparents moved to EP in 1978. Kenneth and I had our wedding reception in their home in 1986, and we moved into their home after they passed. In September 2022 I decided to volunteer time at the EP Historical Commission. I learned some information about my Aunt Betty who just turned 91 this year. I learned some information about my house, and I gradually came to see that 150 years ago, crops for community sustenence could have been growing on the land that eventually became my house. I went on the Historical Bike Tour in 2022 and started thinking about the early businesses that were in homes before formal community development started. I genuinely feel a sense of deep appreciation and humblness when I think about the fact that the location of the business Kenneth and I have now is the site of an original, historical building, now repurposed. I equally honor the site of our previous location that was originally Bethel Luthern School. I met the other members of the history club (as I call it), and I have found them to be the salt of the Earth, with a sincere passion to share all things Evergreen Park. They are immensely knowledgeable and are all storytellers in their own right. For me, having graduated from high school in 1977 from Bloom Trail and having my own personal and professional journey since, I came to see that a part of history, for me is a commonality of experience, a shared history of sorts. I personally view the Historical Commission as holding the roots and lineage of the community. As of March 2024 the History Museum was officially opened and is available for community viewing on the first and third Saturday of the month. I appreciate your time in reading this lengthy intro. post. My goal here is to do my part to help increase awareness of the Historical Commission. My thanks to Gary W. for making me aware of the group, Karen B, Tom R., Stan U.,Virginia W., Mary M., Victor P., Debbie J Szarek-peso, and George Peso for interesting afternoons. 💗

September 1, 2025 marks the third year Kenneth and I have been at 3450 West Maple Street. This year our anniversary date is on on Labor Day, a holiday that has become one of my favorite holidays. Labor Day has become for me a point in the year when I reconsider a sense of purpose and committment to a vocation. I think about how much Kenneth and I love the work we have chosen to do. I think about the ideas we want to to share - ideas of hope in the capacity to change. I think about ideas we want to bring to a person's awareness. One of my favorites is the idea that the mind once expanded, doesn't return to its previous size. For me, this opens the kaleidoscope of awareness and interconnection to the world. I think about the importance of support, to have a place where listening happens. One person listening to another. One person encouraging another to listen to the inner voice of themselves. I think about the reality of a certain struggle most of us face. Basic needs are in the categories of basic survival needs, the need for love and belonging, the need for the freedom to choose, the need for fun or enjoyment in life. Finding the balance between these areas can be a tricky thing.
