I had been thinking about this post and its content. It was my first post on the "We Grew Up in EP!" Platform.
Hello fellow members of this group. My name is Nancy and I have lived in E.P. since 1997. My husband's grandparents moved to EP in 1978. Kenneth and I had our wedding reception in their home in 1986, and we moved into their home after they passed. In September 2022 I decided to volunteer time at the EP Historical Commission. I learned some information about my Aunt Betty who just turned 91 this year. I learned some information about my house, and I gradually came to see that 150 years ago, crops for community sustenence could have been growing on the land that eventually became my house. I went on the Historical Bike Tour in 2022 and started thinking about the early businesses that were in homes before formal community development started. I genuinely feel a sense of deep appreciation and humblness when I think about the fact that the location of the business Kenneth and I have now is the site of an original, historical building, now repurposed. I equally honor the site of our previous location that was originally Bethel Luthern School. I met the other members of the history club (as I call it), and I have found them to be the salt of the Earth, with a sincere passion to share all things Evergreen Park. They are immensely knowledgeable and are all storytellers in their own right. For me, having graduated from high school in 1977 from Bloom Trail and having my own personal and professional journey since, I came to see that a part of history, for me is a commonality of experience, a shared history of sorts. I personally view the Historical Commission as holding the roots and lineage of the community. As of March 2024 the History Museum was officially opened and is available for community viewing on the first and third Saturday of the month. I appreciate your time in reading this lengthy intro. post. My goal here is to do my part to help increase awareness of the Historical Commission. My thanks to Gary W. for making me aware of the group, Karen B, Tom R., Stan U.,Virginia W., Mary M., Victor P., Debbie J Szarek-peso, and George Peso for interesting afternoons. 💗
