I've been getting eaten up by a rogue mosquito 🦟. Ew! But, I've been sick and busy so haven't done much other than to complain about it.

However, today, I'd had enough after days of new bites from my feet to my bum and on my arms. The itching has been quite miserable. I finally made a 3 oz Itchless Body Lotion 🧴 for myself and... Ah... Sweet relief!

Potential Drug and Essential Oil Interactions with Transdermal Drug Application

Topical Route: If drugs are being given through a skin patch), essential oils must not be applied to the area of the drug patch, or in the close vicinity. This helps avoid possible alterations in the drug’s bioavailability. The essential oils could speed up or slow down the delivery of the drug, thus altering the assumed dose.

I recently started my aromatherapy Advanced Graduate Program. I'm already a Certified Clinical Aromatherapist and this is a post-grad program for advanced professionals.

Looking forward to diving into more science behind the therapeutic components in essential oils, hydrosols, carriers, and more! First up, more chemistry: atoms, elements, and isomers.

I love to learn, but ultimately I further my education constantly to be able to provide a higher level of care to you, my clients. Stay posted for tidbits I think you other science-minded folk might enjoy as I go along...

Douglas Fir Purifying Room Spray

Douglas Fir is not actually a fir oil. It’s sometimes called “Douglas Pine,” but it’s not a true pine oil, either. Fir oils are from the genus Abies, and Pines are from the Pinus genus. Douglas Fir’s genus is Pseudotsuga. This name means “false hemlock” (Pseudo = false; tsuga = hemlock).

Conifers create fresh mountain air. While it might be a chameleon in some ways, Douglas Fir is definitely a conifer! And like all conifers, it’s excellent for purifying the air. Imagine being in an evergreen forest in the mountains and breathing in the crisp, clean air—it’s the trees that keep the air so pure!

The scent of Douglas Fir essential oil can bring that experience to your space, plus it’s rich in α-pinene, which has been shown to reduce the presence of microbes. That makes it perfect for a purifying room spray!

Ingredients
• 4 oz (120 ml) Water (I suggest using distilled)
• 9 ml Solubol (dispersant)
• 40 drops Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) essential oil
• 20 drops Lemon (Citrus limon) essential oil

Make this recipe in a 4 oz (120 ml) PET plastic spray bottle.

Directions
• Fill the bottle almost all the way up with water
• Add the essential oils
• Add Solubol
• Give it a good shake
• When ready to use, spray mist all around your room(s)*

You can use this spray on upholstery and carpets, too!

Safety Note: If you have pets, be sure to leave at least one room (to which they have access) unsprayed with this blend. That way if they don’t like the essential oils, they can take themselves to an oil-free area of the house.

Cedarwood Deodorant Mist

These days, if you head to the grocery store for a natural deodorant, you’ll find a lot more choices than you would even five years ago. But finding the right one for you could be quite a journey. Not all of them work for every person’s underarms. And some people even get rashes from the wrong natural deodorant.

I offer a line of solid deodorants at PowersAromatherapy.com, but some prefer mist or like to make their own deodorant instead.

This deodorant mist smells fresh and woodsy and helps reduce the presence of germs that cause unwanted smells in the first place.

You can use this gentle deodorant every day and carry with you to reapply as needed. (You might have to reapply natural deodorants more often. Many reapply two or three times throughout the day.)

Ingredients
• ½ oz Aloe vera gel
• ½ oz (15 ml) Water
• 4 ml Solubol (dispersant)
• 8 drops Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica) essential oil
• 8 drops Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) essential oil
• 8 drops Frankincense (Boswellia carterii) essential oil

Directions
• Combine the aloe vera gel and water in the spray bottle
• Add the drops of essential oil
• Add the Solubol (it helps keep the essential oils distributed through the aloe and water)
• Close the bottle, shake well,
• When ready to use, spray the deodorant under your arms from a few inches away
• Store in a cool location, out of sunlight (use within 3–4 weeks)
