The holidays are here, but if you've recently had surgery, there are some things you need to skip! Here are the top 5 mistakes to avoid:
1. Drinking Alcohol 🍷❌
NO alcohol, especially within 2 weeks post-op or while taking medications. Enjoy a mocktail or ginger beer instead!
2. Dancing 💃❌
Even if you're 2, 4, or 6 weeks out, avoid dancing! It raises your blood pressure, which can cause bleeding or tear healing incisions.
3. Eating Too Many Sweets 🍪❌
Enjoy treats in moderation, but avoid sugar overload. High sugar and insulin spikes impair healing and increase infection risk. Eat consciously and healthily!
4. Being Around Smoking 🚬❌
Avoid cigarette, cigar, or ANY secondhand smoke. It decreases oxygenated blood flow and can kill tissue. If people are smoking, step outside for fresh air.
5. Taking Off Surgical Garments 👗❌
If you're within 6 weeks post-op, DO NOT remove your compression garments or post-op bras, even for holiday events. They're vital for proper healing!
Remember: This advice applies to most patients, but always check with YOUR board-certified plastic surgeon about your specific procedure and timeline.
Enjoy the holidays safely and heal well! 💙🎁
