This recognition stands out because it is built on more than reputation alone. Castle Connolly’s methodology combines all-payor claims data from private and public insurance, clinical outcomes data, and review by a physician-led research team to identify where high-quality procedural care is being delivered.

For patients and families facing important cancer care decisions, that matters. It means this recognition reflects real performance in the procedures that matter most.

We are proud to be recognized for excellence in uterine and ovarian cancer surgery and honored to serve our community with the advanced, trusted care they deserve.

𝗘𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗮 𝗘𝘁𝗰𝘂, 𝗥𝗡, 𝗖𝗖𝗨
As a cardiac care nurse, Elissa brings not only expert clinical knowledge and precision, but also calm reassurance, compassion, and unwavering advocacy for her patients. She anticipates complications and collaborates seamlessly with the care team. She received these kind words from a patient’s family member: “Elissa embodied every single DAISY criteria. Not only did she make sure my fiancé was taken care of, she also reassured me and our family during one of the worst moments of our lives. Unfortunately, my fiance was not strong enough to surpass the consequences of his heart attack. He was an organ donor and we were able to honor him in a hospital-wide honor walk. He went on to save seven other lives. I don’t think I would have been able to get through that time without Elissa’s compassion, patience, kindness, and nursing skill. She embodies what it means to be a cardiac nurse, and was one of my motivations as I am also pursuing cardiac nursing.” Beyond her work at San Antonio, Elissa is also a clinical instructor at Loma Linda University.

Byron joined San Antonio with an extensive background in security and protection. Although new to the healthcare environment, his peers can confirm that Byron has adapted and thrived! He was nominated for our LEAF award by a fellow care team member who shared: “I would like to formally recognize our ER security guard Byron for his exceptional dedication, responsiveness, and genuine care for staff safety. His presence alone brings a sense of reassurance during high-stress moments. He is always vigilent, proactive, and attentive to what is happening on the unit--never minimizing concerns or making staff feel that they are ‘overreacting.’ What truly sets him apart is not just how quickly he responds, but the way he consistently shows that staff safety is his top priority. It is clear that he takes his role seriously and genuinely cares about the wellbeing of the nurses and team he works alongside.”
