Road Apple Psychotherapy, LLC has been in business since 2005 but is a NEW private practice to the Kingman, AZ area. Presently, Road Apple Psychotherapy, LLC is offering traditional “talk” therapy along with offering a specialized form of therapy called Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) & Equine Assisted Learning (EAL). EAP & EAL is an experiential therapy technique. Equines (horses) are used as co-facilitators in this type of therapy not to be confused with therapy for Handicapped persons. EAP/EAL is 95% non riding therapy and is very powerful and can get to issues and problems much faster than traditional “talk” therapy.
Craig J. Bryan, PsyD, ABPP, is a board-certified clinical psychologist in cognitive behavioral psychology, and is currently the Executive Director of the National Center for Veterans Studies at The University of Utah. At a training, on B-CBT (Brief Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) for Suicidal Soldiers, that I attended, Craig J. Bryan, PsyD, stated that “experiential therapies work better and have a much higher success rate than typical “talk” therapies. He further explained the reason for this was because emotions are connected to thoughts, actions, and behaviors. EAP/EAL experiential therapies initiate emotion thus opening up to quicker results.
EAL is a style of learning which is again much more powerful because participants experience the learning instead of just sitting and talking about it. This form of EAP/EAL is a NEW form of therapy being offered in Kingman, AZ. This form of therapy is not offered by any Community Mental Health Center or any other private practice therapy in Mohave County. Char Riale, MSW, LCSW, LCAC, President/Owner/Therapist has been in the mental health field for over 27 years. Char has been involved in horses for over 30 years and is a qualified Equine Specialist. As an Arizona and Indiana state licensed therapist Char has a Masters of Social Work from Indiana University and holds a license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor (LCAC). Char has been Certified in EAP/EAL since 2002. Char continues to improve and gain knowledge in her work in therapy and EAP/EAL.
Char has worked with children as young as 3 years of age all they way up through senior adults. She has worked with a variety of diagnosis, in both talk therapy and EAP/EAL which have included Depression, Anxiety and Panic, ADHD/ADD, PTSD, Schizophrenia, Agoraphobia, Drug/alcohol abuse/dependence/addiction, Grief and Loss, Adjustment problems, and many more. Char has worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups in sessions. These sessions include both talk therapy and experiential therapy with individuals, couples, families, and groups. Char has developed special programs in EAP/EAL to include Parenting: Lessons from the Herd, Pink Elephant (addictions), Butterflies are Free (domestic violence), Taming Mustangs (anger management) & will continue to develop programs that are needed. Char is very passionate about providing a safe place to explore emotions, problems, and patterns, while providing support and encouragement towards finding the courage to create change in a participants life. Office hours are Mon. - Fri., 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and are very flexible. Sessions are scheduled by appointment only. Limited appointment times on Sat. and Sun.
