Do you know your family's eye health history? 👨‍👩‍👧
A family history of glaucoma is one of the strongest risk factors for developing it yourself. Glaucoma damages the optic nerve gradually, and because peripheral vision goes first, many people do not notice the loss until it is significant.

Today, we celebrate Janet. Our British flight nurse turned Certified Ophthalmic Assistant. Janet has been with Northwest Eye Surgeons for 31 years! She has been a valuable source of knowledge, wisdom, motherly-love, laughter, & friendship for so many! We wish her all the happiness in the world in her next chapter because she deserves that plus some!! This isn’t goodbye but more of a THANK YOU ALWAYS!!

May is Healthy Vision Month, and one connection we want more people to know about: diabetes and eye disease. 👁️
Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in working-age adults in the United States. High blood sugar damages the small blood vessels in the retina over time, often without any symptoms in the early stages.
If you have diabetes and have not had a dilated eye exam in the past year, please schedule one. Caught early, diabetic eye disease is very manageable. Caught late, the options become significantly more limited.

More time outside this month is a good thing. For people with dry eye, though, wind, sun, and shifting temperatures can make it genuinely uncomfortable. 🌬️
