Many Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) programs teach the basics of de-escalation — but stop there.
What they often forget are the deeper layers that make all the difference:

💬 Empathy: Real understanding of what someone in crisis is experiencing.
🧠 Mental Health Best Practices: Techniques grounded in psychology, not just procedure.
🤝 Therapist Collaboration: Partnering with clinicians who specialize in trauma, crisis response, and behavioral health.

At Clinical & Forensic Associates, our CIT training goes beyond compliance — it builds competence and compassion. We equip officers to recognize trauma, respond calmly, and connect individuals to the right resources.

Agencies interested in advancing their CIT programs with evidence-based mental health integration can partner with our team today.

Psychotic disorders — such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and brief psychotic episodes — affect how a person perceives reality. Individuals may experience hallucinations, delusions, or disorganized thinking, making it difficult to interpret or respond to their environment in typical ways.

For law enforcement officers, recognizing the signs of psychosis is critical to ensuring safety — both for the individual in crisis and for themselves.

Here’s what every officer should know:
👂 Behavior may seem erratic, but it’s not always criminal. What looks like resistance can be fear or confusion.
🧩 De-escalation saves lives. Calm communication and patience can reduce tension and prevent unnecessary force.
🤝 Connection matters. Referring individuals to mental health professionals or crisis teams can lead to long-term recovery, not repeat encounters.

By learning to recognize psychotic symptoms and respond with empathy, officers can play a vital role in building safer, more compassionate communities.

Roughly 5.5% of U.S. adults—about 14 million people—live with a serious mental illness (SMI) such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression. Many also struggle with substance or alcohol use, making them some of the most vulnerable individuals law enforcement officers encounter.

That’s why Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) is so critical. It equips officers with the tools to de-escalate, build trust, and protect both civilians and themselves.

At Clinical & Forensic Associates (CFA), our CIT program goes beyond the basics. We integrate empathy, trauma awareness, and mental health education—ensuring officers respond not just with authority, but with understanding.

👮‍♂️ Law Enforcement Agencies: Partner with CFA to bring trauma-informed CIT training to your department. Together, we can build safer, more compassionate communities.

🎀 October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month 🎀

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime — a statistic that reminds us how important early detection, community, and compassion truly are.

But behind every diagnosis is a mental and emotional journey that deserves care, space, and understanding.

Here are a few ways to support those affected — directly or indirectly:
✨ Listen without judgment.
✨ Offer practical help — meals, childcare, or errands.
✨ Encourage counseling or peer support.
✨ Check in long after treatment ends — healing is ongoing.

This month, let’s honor the strength of survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and uplift everyone fighting — body and mind.

The Clinical and Forensic Associates team recognizes World Mental Health Day this day is observed annually on October 10th, serves as a pivotal reminder of the importance of mental health awareness and advocacy globally. Established by the World Federation for Mental Health in 1992, this day aims to raise awareness about mental health issues, promote mental well-being, and mobilize efforts to support mental health initiatives.

The significance of World Mental Health Day resonates across various dimensions:
1. Awareness and Education: Mental health issues affect individuals across all ages, backgrounds, and cultures. This day highlights the importance of educating communities about mental health, breaking the stigma associated with mental illness, and encouraging individuals to seek help without fear of judgment.
2. Advocacy for Mental Health Policies: World Mental Health Day pushes for stronger mental health policies and resources within healthcare systems. Advocating for accessible mental health services is essential, as many individuals still face barriers when seeking help. Initiatives launched on this day can lead to significant changes in funding, legislation, and the integration of mental health into primary healthcare.
3. Support for Those Affected: This day serves as a call to action for individuals and communities to support those affected by mental health conditions. It encourages acts of kindness, understanding, and open conversations about mental health, fostering a sense of belonging and support for those who may feel isolated in their struggles.
4. Focus on Specific Themes: Each year, World Mental Health Day features a specific theme that addresses contemporary mental health challenges. For instance, themes may focus on youth mental health, workplace mental health, or the impact of social media on mental well-being. These themes guide discussions and initiatives that are relevant to the current societal landscape.
5. Global Solidarity: By participating in World Mental Health Day, individuals and organizations around the world unite to advocate for mental health awareness, cultivating a sense of global solidarity. This collective effort amplifies voices that may otherwise go unheard, bringing attention to the need for mental health care as a fundamental human right.

In conclusion, World Mental Health Day is more than just a day on the calendar; it represents a crucial opportunity to promote understanding, advocate for change, and support individuals grappling with mental health issues. As we recognize this day, let us commit to fostering a more inclusive society, where mental health is prioritized, and everyone has access to the care they need. Through awareness and action, we can work towards a future where mental health is valued just as much as physical health.

Every day, law enforcement officers across the country respond to calls involving individuals living with serious mental illness. Research shows that 6–10% of all police contacts fall into this category.

Why does this matter? Because without the right training, these encounters can escalate quickly—putting both civilians and officers at risk.

That’s why Clinical & Forensic Associates (CFA) is working to equip officers with Crisis Intervention Training (CIT)—ensuring they have the skills to respond with safety, compassion, and expertise.

When police are trained in Crisis Intervention Training (CIT), they’re better prepared to recognize signs of serious mental illness, use de-escalation strategies, and connect individuals with the right resources.

Without this training, encounters can too easily escalate—leading to unnecessary arrests, injuries, or worse. With CIT, officers gain the tools to prevent these negative outcomes while keeping both the public and themselves safe.
