It’s characterized by excessive, frequent, and unrealistic worry about everyday things, such as job responsibilities, health, or chores. It can affect both children and adults.

**Disclaimer: These are my thoughts and opinions as believer in the church and a Clinical Therapist. My hope is to dismantle the stigma attached to Christians who might be suffering from mental illness so they can get the help that's needed.

People are suffering with undiagnosed mental health issues in the church because many are skilled at "playing church." What is "playing church?" Saying and doing all the "right things" that make us look holy but in reality not believing what we say and living in a way that contradicts what we confess.

Some people feel that it is impossible to love God, trust in Him and suffer from clinical depression. Well, the brain is an organ just like our liver and body and does get sick. It's easier to accept our heart being sick but not our brain for some reason.

As a believer, when we are sick (mentally, emotionally, physically & spiritually), we should:
[  ] Acknowledge it and bring it to the Lord.
[  ] Trust Him for healing.
[  ] Be willing to DO what is necessary.

To acknowledge what you are going through does not mean you don't have faith. It's the first step to healing.

• Every day is a bad day.
• Caring about your work or home life seems like a total waste of energy.
• You’re exhausted all the time.
• The majority of your day is spent on tasks you find either mind-numbingly dull or overwhelming.
• You feel like nothing you do makes a difference or is appreciated.

Here are some recommended tips to help:
1. Turn to others for help.
2. Reframe the way you look at work.
3. Reevaluate your priorities.
4. Make exercise a priority.
5. Support your mood and energy levels with a healthy diet.

Burnout is real and is fueled by prolonged periods of stress. Don't ignore the signs. Instead take preventative actions.

Maintaining the right perspective is key....

So your moving along, being productive and focused and than -bam- something happens unexpectedly that throws you totally off guard! These events can evoke many internal feelings and thoughts. Before long, we may find ourselves stuck and unable to move forward.

If we can only manage our emotions enough to take an objective look, we will be able to see the bigger picture and move forward faster. Yes, our emotions are valid. Our emotions can also keep us stuck if we are unable to process through them.

Instead of allowing your emotions to paralyze you:

1) Acknowledge your feelings, feel them and allow space to talk about them.

2) Refocus on the bigger picture (or goal).

3.) Decide next steps to reach your goal and keep moving forward.

4) Most importantly, don't forget to be patient with yourself.

Mental Health Matters!

Life happens and sometimes we need a listening ear. Other times we need help with dealing with life's challenges and changes.
