I don't know about ya'll, but I often check-in with myself to reflect and gauge how effectively I'm handling the stressors that come along with being a speech-language pathologist (ESPECIALLY one who works in schools 🥴).
The most important reason for this self-assessment is to ensure I remain in good mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health, but I also do it to ensure I'm able to offer my students the very BEST version of me -- because that's exactly what they deserve.
Today, my school's daily affirmation -- one that is recited by every kiddo each morning as a part of the morning announcements -- serves as a good reminder of why I show up as my very best self, no matter what difficulties, annoyances, injustices, drama (or even trauma!) await me, and why I use every therapy session to see, understand, and speak life to the WHOLE CHILD- not just address a speech or language disorder...
"There will never be another now - I will make the most of today. There will never be another me - I will make the most of myself. It is up to me to respect myself and others, to gain the knowledge I deserve, and to share it with the world."
