Vital Flow CU

Vital Flow CU Offering inclusive, trauma informed licensed massage & hoop dance therapy in CU & surrounding areas.

Vital Flow is comprised of one wellness practitioner, Amy Wyatt who is dedicated to improving the lives of others through therapeutic touch, wellness education and invitations for dance, play, and movement. With a background in social work, she has spent many years working in the disability community and providing individualized care while supporting people on whatever path they happen to be on wi

th a focus on personal growth and well being. The desire to understand pain - how it manifests and is experienced by a person - is what drives Amy’s passion for what she does. She is deeply curious about the ways mental stress and trauma show up in the physical body and believes strongly in the mind-body connection. Her holistic, trauma informed approach sets Amy apart from other therapists and is an invitation for recovery and lasting health for her clients. Amy obtained her training as a massage therapist from Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois and has been licensed since February 2019. She specializes in working high tension areas and providing an overall sense of relaxation and rejuvenation. As your massage therapist, she is committed to making you feel at ease and supported. Clients are encouraged to openly communicate needs, preferences, and comfort level throughout every session. Amy is also a certified Hoop Dance Coach which allows her to inspire and empower others to find freedom of expression inside and outside a hula hoop. No prior experience is necessary to begin this practice and there is no age limit! Hooping is a great way to build strength in your entire body, especially focusing on your core. Core strength is an important way to prevent aches and pains that develop as a result of weakness. Not only that, but it can help improve posture, coordination and balance, gets the heart rate going and keeps joints healthy. Plus, it's a really fun way to work out or spend time with others!

Any musical theatre fans out there? Come see Gypsy at Parkland College Theater next weekend, July 17-20, directed by my son and produced by yours truly!

For those who don’t know, I wear many hats and, thanks to my 17-year old, community theatre producer happens to be one of them. And so, the door to the studio is closed and will remain closed until after the show. I’m booked the rest of July but have some spots open next month.

If you’re interested in seeing the show, tickets are on sale online at cudramamakers.com. You can also check out Champaign Urbana Drama Makers to see who is in the cast and how it’s all been progressing.🤩 Lots of talented folks of all ages! If you’re able to make it, be sure to say hi! We would love your support and you will most definitely be entertained!!!🌹🌹🌹

Red flags 🚩🚩🚩 Some people run from them… while others of us dart towards them.😐😅

Our bodies are always communicating with us. One way is through pain and dysfunction. Red flags! Denying our own pain body, denying our own needs, only invites more red flags. More pain. More dysfunction.

This is a reminder to trust your intuition. Listen to your body. What is it trying to tell you? What red flags are you ignoring?

My people, my people, let your freak flag fly! Diversity, Equality and Inclusion may not matter to some (like meta, the very platform we seem to be finding ourselves on right now🧐)… but it matters at Vital Flow. I value all of my clients and their experiences. I strive to make each person feel SAFE, seen and heard. The freak in me sees the freak in you and wants you to know that you’re welcome in my space, q***r or not!

Happy !

We’ve heard that 60-70% of the human body is composed of water. But did you know that according to the work of Japanese researcher, Dr. Masaru Emoto, human consciousness has the power to affect the molecular structure of water?

In his experiments, water that was sent positive thoughts and affirmations was compared under a microscope to water which was ignored and demoralized. What Dr. Emoto and his team concluded is that kind words and intentions shape water crystals into brilliantly beautiful formations while negative energy and neglect warp their shape and color.🤯

So to me this begs the question: If we’re mostly water and we drink (ideally) a ton of water every day, what are we doing to our bodies when we allow negative self-talk to enter into our consciousness? Are we just making ourselves sick and sluggish? And what, too, of the people around us? For someone who grew up receiving the message from others, including “care”givers, that they were no good, or who felt ignored, how has this reshaped their entire being? Can societal isms be responsible for restructuring a person’s biology, as well as social policies? Furthermore, in this way, can we also harness the power to heal?

For more on these studies (and his experiments with rice!), you can check out Dr. Emoto’s book, The Hidden Messages In Water and/or do a search engine deep dive. Fascinating stuff!💧❄️

With the Venus retrograde season reaching its final moments this weekend, I’m reminded of how it is symbolic of the heroine’s journey and the Sumerian story of Inanna and Ereshkigal. It’s one of my favorite astrological myths, which I’ll briefly summarize. As the story goes, Inanna, who is the Queen of Heaven and Earth, hears the cry of her sister, Ereshkigal, Queen of the Underworld, and decides to go check on her. She passes through 7 gates and is required to strip away her armor along the way leaving her defenseless by the time she makes it to her sister (her shadow self) who ends up killing her.☠️ (Symbolism galore here.) But after some time of Inanna being m.i.a., the gods send down some help. These little helpers go to Ereshkigal who is crying out in pain. They reflect back to her what she’s feeling. Ereshkigal feels witnessed and therefore relieved of her pain. In gratitude, she ends up reviving her sister, Inanna from the dead. Both are reborn. And that’s when we see Venus return to the evening sky. Beautiful, yeah?

I’m sharing this story not only as it relates to to our current cosmic climate, but because hearing it reminds me of the work I do. And it seems to be in line with a theory I’ve had about what goes into people feeling relieved of their pain after receiving massage therapy. Obviously it is a physical manipulation of the tissues and it affects the autonomic nervous system, playing a role in healing. But could there be something more to it still? Could the act of showing up and and letting oneself and one’s pain be known and witnessed by another be the magic behind it all? ✨ ✨✨

One of the (many) benefits of massage therapy is its ability to help regulate our body's nervous system. A regulated nervous system allows us to feel safe in the world & remain calm, to be present with others & maintain good health.

But did you know that partnered people have the ability to help regulate their partner's nervous system, as well? Simply by holding space for them... by accepting & loving them for who they are... by making them feel safe & secure which happens when we make our partner feel seen & heard without judgment or abandonment... when we show a willingness to hold our lover's trauma & pain without turning away. This, in turn, has a tremendous impact on the body's ability to restore balance & repair itself. It also deepens the love between two people & strengthens their bond.

Give your sweetie the gift of a regulated nervous system and they'll wanna be your valentine all the time.💘
