❄️ With the recent winter storm, here are some snow shoveling tips to keep you safe while you clear the snow ❄️
-
1. Warm-up First. Treat shoveling like exercise. Do a few light exercises and walk around to get your muscles warmed up and ready for work.

2. Lift Properly. Bend with your knees, NOT your back. Lift and move with your legs and hips rather than your back. Brace your core to protect your back. Push the snow rather than lifting it whenever possible.

3. Take Breaks. Shoveling can be strenuous. Take frequent breaks to avoid over-exertion. This is especially important if you're shoveling heavy, wet snow.

4. Don't Overload the Shovel. Avoid lifting too much snow at once. It's better to take several smaller loads than to strain yourself with a large heavy one.

5. Stay Hydrated. Like any physical activity, shoveling snow can be taxing on your body. Drink water to stay hydrated and avoid fatigue.

6. Clear Snow Early and Often. If possible, shovel snow in small increments throughout the day to prevent large amounts from building up. Wet snow is heavier, so it's easier to handle if cleared right away.

7. Watch Your Posture. Keep your back straight, core braced, and avoid twisting your torso. Move your feet instead of twisting to prevent an injury to your back.

If you do find yourself with an injury, give us call at (217) 367-3333 to schedule an appointment. The office is open today.

Don't fear the good fats!

Good, quality fats that contain omega-3 are incredibly important for our diets. These foods also contain high concentrations of choline and vitamin A, which are fat soluble vitamins needed for the proper development of a baby's brain, lungs, and liver. Postpartum these foods help with healing and enrich breast milk. Don't be afraid of fat! Good fats are crucial to our health.

Our Story

Paunicka Chiropractic Clinic has been proudly serving the Champaign-Urbana and surrounding communities in East Central Illinois for over 40 years. Dr. Mark Paunicka first began his clinical practice in Champaign-Urbana in 1978 and continues to practice full time. His daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Paunicka, began her career in private practice in 2012. In 2016 Dr. Elizabeth returned to Champaign-Urbana and joined Dr. Mark at the clinic in Urbana.

We believe that chiropractic care is an important aspect of your overall health, whether you are suffering from pain due to a personal injury, sports injury, motor vehicle accident, or dealing with a life-long condition. Chiropractic care has also been proven to be safe and effective in the treatment of pregnant women and children. Many women have come to recognize the vital role chiropractic care plays in a healthy pregnancy and report that regular spinal adjustments have helped them feel healthier during their pregnancy, decreased morning sickness, facilitated shorter labor and delivery times, and increased overall sense of well-being.

Our doctors and staff take great pride in the services we offer here at the clinic. We strive to help each patient reach his or her health goals. We have enjoyed helping so many in this wonderful community and hope to continue for many years to come.
