Westside Conservative Club A group for conservatives in west suburbs of Des Moines, Iowa. Meetings are held the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.

at the Machine Shed in Urbandale. Come early enough to order your own breakfast.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, August 27 will Iowa State Representative and candidate for Iowa Governor Eddie Andrews. Eddie recently won the Iowa State Fair straw poll for the GOP governor’s nomination which was conducted by the Iowa Secretary of State.
Representative Andrews is currently serving his third term in the Iowa legislature. He represents Johnston and parts of Urbandale. In the legislature he has a proven conservative record and has been a leader on mental health and education issues, where he has advocated for school choice and successfully led efforts to raise teachers pay, as well as authoring Iowa’s landmark parental rights bill. He also helped pass the largest tax cut in Iowa ‘s history.
Andrews is a tech entrepreneur/ app developer and a bilingual minister. He graduated from East High School where he was President of the Student Government. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Iowa.
Eddie and his wife Betty have two daughters and reside in Johnston.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, August 13 will be United States Senator Joni Ernst. Senator Ernst is serving her second term in the Senate. She is the first Iowa woman elected to serve in Congress. She has also served as Vice Chair of the Senate Republican Conference and Chair of the Republican Policy Committee.
The Senator founded the Senate DOGE Caucus and gives out a monthly SQUEAL Award that recognizes a Washington program, expense or concept that is wasteful and must be cut.
She currently serves on the following committees:
Armed Forces where she chairs the Emerging Threats and Capabilities subcommittee,
Agriculture where she chairs the Rural Development subcommittee and
Homeland Security.
She also chairs the Business and Entrepreneurship Committee.
Prior to her election to the Senate she served from 2011 to 2014 in the Iowa Senate and was the Montgomery County Auditor from 2005 to 2011.
Senator Ernst is a graduate of Iowa State University and earned a Masters of Public Administration degree from Columbus State University.
The Senator served over 23 years in the military, retiring as a Lt Colonel. She is the first woman combat veteran elected to the United States Senate after serving 12 months as commander of the 1168th Transportation Company during the Iraq War.
Senator Ernst lives in Red Oak, Iowa and her daughter is currently serving in the United States Army.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, July 23 will be Bob Inglis, Executive Director of RepublicEn, a national organization advocating free enterprise action on climate change.
Bob is a former South Carolina member of Congress who served from 1992-1998 when he ran for the United States Senate. He was re-elected to Congress in 2004 and served three more terms until he launched the Energy and Enterprise Initiative at George Mason University. In 2014 E & EI rebranded as RepublicEn.
Inglis has served as a Resident Fellow at Harvard University’s Institute of Politics, a Visiting Energy Fellow at Duke University and a Resident Fellow at the University of Chicago.
He graduated from Duke University and earned his law degree from the University of Virginia.
Bob and his wife Mary Anne have five children and reside on a small farm in northern Greenville County, S.C.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, July 9 will be Bob Vander Plaats, the President and CEO of the Iowa Family Leader. Bob will update us on the upcoming Family Leadership Summit and their plans for a new headquarters.
The Family Leader works to engage our government and the Church, impact elections and promote righteousness in public policy
Bob is a past gubernatorial candidate and the GOP nominee for Lt. Governor in 2006.
He is also known for his Presidential Caucus endorsements. In 2008 he was the Iowa chair for caucus winner Mike Huckabee, in 2012 he endorsed winner Rick Sa****um and 2016 endorsed Ted Cruz.
In 2010 Bob led the successful campaign against retention of three members of the Iowa Supreme Court who had voted to overturn Iowa’s Defense of Marriage Act.
Vander Plaats earned his bachelors degree in Education from Northwestern College while on a basketball scholarship and his Masters degree in Education Leadership from Drake University.

Our speaker for July 23 will be former South Carolina Congressman Bob Inglis speaking on climate change and conservative energy policy.

Our Westside Conservative Club speaker for Wednesday, June 25 will be Iowa State Senator Mike Bousselot, who represents the 21st Senate District consisting of a large portion of Ankeny. Mike is serving his first term in the Senate after winning a special election for the Iowa House in 2021. In the Senate he has served on the Commerce, Administrative Rules, Appropriations, Judiciary and Ways and Means Committees.
Bousselot was Governor Terry Branstad’s Chief of Staff from 2015 - 2017. In 2021 he was appointed Director of the Iowa Department of Management.
Mike earned his BA and MA degrees in accounting from the University of Iowa. He has a Juris Doctorate from Drake University Law School.
Mike and his wife Holly reside in Ankeny.

Our Wednesday, July 9 speaker will be Bob Vander Plaats, President and CEO of the Iowa Family Leader.
