Urbandale Eye Care has been serving the community for nearly 40 years. Previously Urbandale Optical, we're the same local business that Central Iowans have trusted with their eyes for decades. We have four caring Doctors of Optometry who take the time to listen and personalize your eye exam to make sure all your needs are met and questions are answered. We accept most vision and medical insurances

(including EyeMed, VSP, and Vision Care Direct), and have a wide variety of glasses to accommodate your style and budget. Our opticians are skilled at selecting the best eyewear and lens technology to have you seeing and looking your best. Our doctors treat eye diseases, infections, and injuries in addition to providing comprehensive eye exams for glasses, contacts, and general eye health. We have the latest technology for detection and treatment of eye disease, and our staff can tell you about the latest and greatest advancements in eye wear! Ask about the FREE InfantSEE program that Dr. Kyler is a volunteer for. We recommend that all children have a full eye exam with an eye care provider before starting kindergarten. Taking advantage of the InfantSEE program (6-12 months of age) is a fantastic way to make sure your child is developing well. Age 3 is another great age to have a full exam because many eye problems present around that time. Anytime you have questions about your child's vision, don't hesitate to call us! Check out our website for descriptions of our doctors, more information about our practice, tips about vision, and answers to your vision-related questions. www.urbandaleeyecare.com

We can't echo this video from Dr. Kyler's Optometry School enough! A comprehensive eye exam can make an enormous difference in a child's learning, an athlete's career, and any person's day to day life. We love making a difference at Urbandale Eye Care! Vision screenings can absolutely find problems, but they can also miss problems. Seeing 20/20 or being under the alert level on a screening device does not guarantee there is nothing impacting vision and visual development. Children don't always know that the way they see isn't how it is supposed to be. Set yourself, your child, your friends up for success and recommend a full eye exam with a Doctor of Optometry.

We are very excited about this news! It will be great to have another option to consider with families when their child's nearsightedness is getting worse or they are at high risk. Now is a great time to schedule an eye exam with one of our myopia management doctors and find out your child's risk level for developing high myopia (nearsightedness).

Today, we authorized the marketing of the first eyeglass lenses to slow the progression of nearsightedness in children 6 to 12 years old at the initiation of treatment. https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/fda-authorizes-marketing-first-eyeglass-lenses-slow-progression-pediatric-myopia

The eyeglass lenses may reduce the likelihood of severe eyesight issues later in adult life and carry lower risks than the currently approved treatment alternative for slowing progression of myopia.
