Member Spotlight 🌟 Lorin Fisher, PharmD, BCACP

💊 Lorin is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy and a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Supportive and Palliative Care. She completed PGY1 and PGY2 residencies with the University of Iowa Health Care in ambulatory care pharmacy.

📊 Lorin has been involved in IPA since she was a student pharmacist. Through her residency years, Lorin presented posters at IPA Annual Meeting and served on various IPA committees. Most recently, Lorin attended the Decker-Temple Leadership Pharmacy Conference with the Class of 2025.

💙 When asked why others should get involved, Lorin described IPA with three Cs: comfort, community, and connections.

👩‍⚕️ Looking ahead, Lorin sees pharmacists providing accessible, comprehensive care for patients—and getting paid for new services!

Last week, IPA staff and leadership met with Iowa pharmacy stakeholders and partners to discuss current issues impacting the profession. Increasing the number of preceptors, Medicaid fee-for-service changes, and implementation of the Uniform MPJE (UMPJE) were all top of mind. IPA appreciates continued support from this group to address current issues and discuss solutions together. 🤝

Member Spotlight 🌟 Michelle Lawton, CPhT

❤️ Michelle works at Hy-Vee Pharmacy in Fort Dodge and participates in a variety of patient care activities, from dispensing and data entry, to administering vaccines and taking blood pressures. A smile with a “thank you” after caring for a patient makes her job so rewarding.

🤝 Michelle joined IPA with the encouragement of a coworker and now serves on IPA’s Advisory Committee on Amplified Voice. “Building connections with others is a huge key benefit of becoming involved.”

📢 When asked why others should join, she said, “IPA ensures that your voice is heard and actively represents pharmacy professionals at the state and national levels.” We’re proud to represent pharmacy technicians like you, Michelle!

💊 Looking ahead, Michelle anticipates that standard of care will increase flexibility in technician roles, allowing technicians to be more involved in checking medications, pharmacy operations and other initiatives, increasing opportunities for career advancement.
