Our wide range of providers help people find solutions for current life problems, understand past issues, and build a hopeful future. The Center also provides consultations and educational services to professionals, businesses, and congregations. This effort is part of our commitment to caring for others—both inside and outside our walls. As Teri Hughes-Paulline shares, “Our Service SERT group at the Center realizes that our community’s needs can’t only be addressed by how we serve clients within our building but outside our doors as well. We are committed to being of service to our larger community, and know that all of us feel better connected to others when we can be of service, particularly in this time of great community need.”

“A healthy mom means healthy children.”

Those were the words that changed everything for Maria.

When depression and anxiety made her question if she could ever be a mother, Maria came to Mind & Spirit Counseling Center. With the help of her care team, she found a path forward — one that honored both her mental health and her dream of family.

Today, Maria is thriving and her story reminds us that hope grows where compassion meets care.

But too many mothers in Central Iowa still face their struggles alone. Last year, 31% of our clients were uninsured or underinsured, making counseling out of reach without community support.

📚 Join Billie's Antiracism Book Club for One of Our Final Reads!

We’re closing out this meaningful series with “Caucasia: A Novel” by Danzy Senna, a powerful story of identity, race and belonging.

Set in 1970s Boston, Caucasia follows Birdie and Cole, two sisters born to a Black father and a white mother, both activists in the Civil Rights Movement. Though inseparable, the world treats them differently — Birdie is often seen as white, while Cole moves through the world as Black. When their family splits apart, Birdie’s life becomes a search for her sister, her identity and her place in a divided world.
