CDV - Dapper NY soldier (Albany, NY photographer) - This is a second generation shot taken from what looks like perhaps a large albumen. It was a common practice if you wanted additional images of a soldier and did not have access to the original plates. Photo is much lighter than the original due to the lighting. $95. (Postage included - US only).

CDV - ZOUAVE - 12TH NYSM - Image shows typical 'balloon' trousers, gaiters, kepi which has very visible '12'. J. Brill, NYC - Photographer, listed in New York City in 1856. Two variants known (Julius Brille and Brill) listed at 204 Chatham Street, NYC. There is a blind stamp on the front bottom 'J. Brill / 204 / ' Bottom does not appear trimmed so must be the bad placement of his stamp to not include street & city. Top two corners are trimmed. There is a pencil inscription on both sides, front '12th _______' (can't make out the rest of it - could be a name(?). Reverse has 'This is a photograph of a young ____ who served in the 12th regt NY in 1861. The ____________ guarding ____ 14 years old' - this is the best I can make out. Photo shows much lighter than the actual CDV due to lighting. $195. (Postage included - US only)

CDV - 112th PA Vols. / 2nd PA Heavy Artillery - Abner Steever - He is found in the National Soldier's & Sailor's Index and believe it is misspelled as 'Abner Steber' in the Civil War Data Base. CDV is signed in period ink as 'Abiner Steever' on reverse and also on the bottom of the front but has been trimmed off as shown. CDV is much lighter in photo due to lighting. Steever mustered into Co. M of the 2nd Pennsylvania Heavy Artillery in November, 1863 and was discharged in January, 1866. While a member of the 2nd Pennsylvania H.A., the regiment took part in the battles of: Wilderness, Seven Pines, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, Weldon Rail Road, Richmond, Boydton Plank Road, and Chapin's Farm. $158. CDV - 18th Connecticut Infantry - Col. William G. Ely - POW - Escaped from Libby - Originally Ely Was commissioned into the 1st CT. Inf. then promoted in rank to the 6th CT. Inf. then transferred to the 18th in Aug., 1862. He was a POW at Wi******er, held at Libby Prison. He was involved with digging a tunnel to escape, thought to be the only CT man to escape but was re-captured forty-two miles away. He was later paroled in March, 1864 and wounded at Lynchburg, Va in June, 1864. He would be discharged for disability in June, 1865. Quite a colorful War-time experience. CDV does have a stain on the upper and lower right side and lighting makes it appear brighter. Image taken by the famous Bendann of Baltimore. SOLD

CDV - 10th New York Cavalry - Pvt. William Youngs - P.L. Perkins, Photographer (Baltimore). Reverse has pencil inscription 'Willm Youngs / Buffalo / NY' On the top of the reverse, also in pencil (extremely light) appears to be ' ____ Youngs'. There are only a handful of William Youngs in the New York Rosters and only one listed in Buffalo. If this is in fact him he was in the 10th NY Cavalry, enlisting in September, 1861, in Buffalo, re-enlisting in December, 1863 and mustering out in June, 1865. He is holding his hat to his side and with a glass it looks like there is a numeral '0' visible. Would have liked to have seen some yellow piping on the jacket but checked out other 10th images that also had dark piping. There is also some missing albumen paper on the lower left corner of the image. The 10th NY Cavalry was very heavily engaged during the War, taking part in the battles of: Centerville, Manassas, Dumfries, Stoneman's Raid, Brandy Station, Hanover, Gettysburg, Leesburg, Bristol Station, Todd's Tavern, Wilderness, Richmond, Trevillian Station, Reams' Station, Malvern Hill, Petersburg, Appomattox Court House as well as dozens more. $128. (Postage paid - US Only) ON HOLD

CDV - Line officer, no photographer's back mark. looks to be wearing Smith's Patent shoulder straps. Somebody is going to recognize this vest! It has 23 (looks to be 'ball' buttons) that are purely aesthetic, no function with 8 underlying functional buttons. Nice looking image with just a few abrasions. Reverse photo shows much lighter than it is (lighting issue). SOLD

CDV - 36th Pennsylvania Infantry / 7th Pennsylvania Reserves - 1st Lieut. Ernst Snowwhite. Snowwhite mustered into Co. C of the 36th PA Inf. / 7th PRC in May, 1861 and discharged in March, 1865, Listed as POW at the Wilderness and confined at Macon and Columbia. The image has a faint period ink inscription on top of reverse "Ernst Snowwhite / Co. C 7th Rgt. PRC." It is a full standing view with his Foot Officer's sword and a '7' can be seen on his hat.
There is another period ink inscription on bottom of reverse "Wm. Rank????? / 1863 / Comp. C 7th / Regt PRVC", who was a Private - Looks like Snowwhite presented this to him. Harrisburg photographer. There are modern notes in pencil on reverse that I cannot confirm, that he was wounded at Antietam and run over by a gun carriage and horses at Gaines Mill in 1862. That information may have come from a regimental. A lot of foxing and the contrast is a bit lighter than it shows in the photo shown. SOLD
