We’re mourning the passing of Gary Burkle. Gary was one of a kind. A true great who was determined, driven, and committed to living the life he envisioned for himself. Moreover, he dedicated himself to ensuring others could do the same.

Through selfless and tireless outreach and the pursuit of equality for all people with disabilities, Gary became a champion of self-advocacy in our community and across the state. He was elected and appointed to several respected leadership roles, including serving as President and other executive positions with the Utica Shining Stars for several years.

Gary loved to stay busy and connected. He seemed to know everyone, and he could call in a favor at a moment’s notice. He was a change maker, an influencer, and a legend whose impact will be felt for generations. He will be forever missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace, Gary.

We’re thrilled to have hosted Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. this week during his visit to our Chef's Express bakeshop and Fine Arc at The Arc, Oneida-Lewis program, both located on Genesee Street.

He toured our spaces, met the talented artists and bakers in training behind the work, and left with a bag full of goodies, along with custom Utica Comets artwork created by Sue Brabant. Seeing is believing when it comes to our mission in action. Oneida County Government

Caring is at our CORE

The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter, is a human service organization that has been a leader in services for people with developmental disabilities since 1954. Our Agency was founded by a group of parents who envisioned a rich, full life for their children with disabilities inclusive in the community. Today, The Arc Oneida-Lewis a chapter of The Arc New York statewide organization.

The Arc provides a full spectrum of educational, vocational, residential, family support, guardianship, respite care, recreational rehabilitation, day habilitation, clinical, senior, and children’s services to people with developmental disabilities and their families.

Our Agency is staffed by over 700 professionals and serves over 1,400 people throughout Oneida and Lewis Counties.

Our Mission is to enable persons with disabilities and their families to achieve their potential through self-determined goals in partnership with the Agency. We will provide leadership in our community to develop the necessary human and financial resources to fulfill this mission.
