Yes, she’s a bit of a “lemon”, but in the sweetest, most endearing way. 🍋 Lemon just completed her journey from Kuwait to the U.S. After quarantine, she entered temporary foster care with Become A Foster Guardian (BFG), and this week she joined me (Karyn) & my family in RI for the next part of her story.
Like many salukis in Kuwait, Lemon was used for racing. After a serious leg injury, her owners deemed her “useless.” In a cruel attempt to avoid identification, they cut off her tattooed ear and left her on a desert roadside. But Lemon survived because she’s strong and full of heart. Thanks to Leila, BFG, and her fairy godmother Carla, she’s now safe & adored.
Despite her trauma, Lemon is sweet, gentle, and incredibly resilient. Her injured leg dangles like dead weight, yet she climbs stairs and even jumps onto the bed. Watching her in the house is like having my own gorgeous little deer. She taps her paw or softly whines for affection, and always wants to be close.
She gets along with most dogs, though sometimes growls if one passes her bed. We believe this stems from her past, vulnerable & injured, growling was her defense. Thankfully, we’re already seeing improvement as she begins to feel safer.
Lemon is otherwise healthy, but faces physical challenges. She has a full vet exam and surgical consult coming up. Our goal is to give her the best chance at a pain-free life with more mobility.
Once healed, Lemon will be looking for a forever home. Ideally, with someone experienced in sighthounds and/or rescue dogs. Someone who can provide a peaceful environment without small animals or overly territorial or high-energy dogs. She loves Greyson, our 12yr old son, sleeping with him every night, so she would do very well in a calm, family setting.
We’ll continue to share updates as Lemon progresses. If you’d like to support her care and recovery, please visit GREYFOSTERFUND.org to donate.
