Big step forward for trauma-informed care at Freedom Counseling Group 🎉

Joshua Austin recently completed EMDR training with Kim Johnson from Transform Your Life Counseling & EMDR Training.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy approach designed to help people process trauma, anxiety, distressing memories, and other experiences that can feel “stuck” in the nervous system.

Joshua is continuing to expand his skills so he can better support clients in the Vacaville community with compassionate, effective care.

Growth as a therapist never really stops… there’s always another training, another book, another acronym to learn. Therapists basically collect certifications like Pokémon cards, but with more coffee and fewer holographics. ☕🧠

If you’ve been considering therapy or are curious about EMDR, we’d love to connect.

Meet Nicholas Erickson, MA, AMFT, APCC
EMDR Therapist | Vacaville + Telehealth in California

Some people look like they’re holding it all together… while internally they’re running on fumes.

Nicholas specializes in helping teens, young adults, adults, couples, and families move beyond simply “coping” and into real, lasting change. His work focuses on anxiety, trauma, PTSD, addiction, emotional shutdown, chronic stress, and the ripple effects addiction can have on relationships and families.

With a background in residential and outpatient substance use treatment, plus firsthand understanding of burnout and high-pressure environments, Nicholas brings a grounded, active, and deeply human approach to therapy.

His style goes beyond talk therapy, helping clients create real shifts in how their mind, body, and nervous system respond to stress, emotions, and relationships.

Whether someone is navigating:
• trauma and chronic anxiety
• emotional numbness or burnout
• substance use as emotional regulation
• the impact of a loved one’s addiction
• relationship disconnection

Nicholas offers structured, evidence-based therapy with clear direction and meaningful progress.

🌿 Meet Peyton Baldinger, MS, LMFT
Site Director & Trauma Therapist – Gold River, CA

Congratulations, Peyton, on your new license!

Peyton Baldinger serves as the Site Director of Freedom Counseling Group’s Gold River office and provides trauma-informed therapy to individuals seeking deeper, lasting healing.

Peyton holds a BA in Philosophy and Theology from Point Loma Nazarene University and an MS in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University. She is EMDR trained, a Certified Mindfulness Informed Professional (CMIP), and has completed EFT Externship training.

Peyton is especially passionate about working with individuals who feel overwhelmed, emotionally disconnected, or stuck in patterns shaped by past experiences. Many clients describe feeling like they are “white-knuckling” their way through life—appearing capable on the outside while internally struggling with anxiety, numbness, or hypervigilance.

Her therapeutic approach focuses on healing the root causes of distress through EMDR, attachment-based therapy, and mindfulness-informed somatic practices. Rather than trying to “fix” clients, Peyton partners with them to help their nervous system find balance and safety again.

Peyton provides in-person therapy in Gold River and surrounding communities, as well as secure telehealth services for clients throughout California.

If you’re ready to move beyond survival mode and toward a more grounded, fulfilling life, Peyton would be honored to walk alongside you.

EMDR Therapy at Freedom Counseling Group: Is It Right for You?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy designed to help the brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their emotional “sting.” Rather than reliving painful experiences over and over, EMDR helps the nervous system file them away correctly — finally creating space for calm, clarity, and confidence.

EMDR may be especially effective for:
• Trauma and PTSD
• Anxiety, panic, and chronic stress
• Grief and complicated loss
• Childhood wounds and family-of-origin pain
• Negative beliefs (“I’m not enough,” “I’m unsafe,” etc.)
• People who feel stuck despite talk therapy

Who is a good candidate?
Anyone who feels weighed down by past experiences, overwhelming emotions, or long-standing patterns that don’t shift as easily as they’d like. EMDR is a strong fit for people who want a structured process, prefer less talking and more reprocessing, or feel like their body responds before their brain can catch up.

EMDR Intensives Are Available
For deeper, faster progress, Freedom Counseling Group also offers EMDR Intensives — concentrated therapy completed over one day, a weekend, or a brief series. Intensives allow you to make significant gains in a short period while receiving focused, personalized support from a trained EMDR clinician.

If you’re curious whether EMDR or an EMDR Intensive is right for you, our team would love to talk. Healing doesn’t have to take forever — sometimes it just takes the right approach.

🌿 EMDR Therapy Intensives at Freedom Counseling Group 🌿

EMDR Intensives provide a focused, short-term format for trauma and stress treatment — typically completed in just a few days. Research supports the effectiveness of intensive therapy, and many clients appreciate being able to make meaningful progress without months of weekly appointments.

Benefits of EMDR Intensives:
• Process more in a shorter time
• More cost-effective overall
• No weekly scheduling
• Make lasting change sooner
• Often shorter waitlists
• Fewer missed workdays
• Accessible for clients out of state or navigating childcare/transportation hurdles

Many clients experience the same level of healing in a 2–4 day intensive as they would in months of weekly therapy.

FAQs:
• Are intensives more effective than weekly therapy?
EMDR works well both weekly and intensively. Intensives simply move the process along faster.

• How long does an intensive last?
Most are 1–3 days, scheduled from 8–5 with breaks.
