Vacaville PAL attended the National PAL Youth Summit in Arlington, VA from July 8th-13th. We had a great time during the conference connecting and meeting different people from PAL chapters across the nation. 🌎
We learned powerful life tools like breathing exercises, how to recognize the people who make you feel safe, and that your past doesn’t define your future. 🧘‍♀️💙
One of the most memorable moments was riding electric scooters around Washington D.C., exploring the monuments and learning about the history of our nation. 🛴
We also had the honor of visiting the National Law Enforcement Memorial to pay tribute to fallen officer Matthew B. Bowen. 💐
PAL Teens are grateful for this once in a lifetime experience. We built relationships, networked, and learned that opportunities can come from places you’d least expect.
Experiences like this remind us how many amazing opportunities are out there for youth, many we may not even be aware of. Somehow, we were lucky enough to take part in this one and for that, we’re truly thankful.

That’s a wrap for week 2 of Summer at City Hall (SACH). 👏 Today, interns in the SACH program received education about the importance of democracy, voting, engagement in city council meetings, and the election process of council members.

Interns took what they learned and participated in a Mock City Council meeting were 7 youth were “elected” into council positions. As “council members,” interns heard from the Fire Department and Community Development on two different city ordinances. Youth discussed the impact that each ordinance would have in the City of Vacaville and formed a decision on how to move forward.

Through this process, we are helping young people become more informed about the democratic process and the importance of being active in their community. 😊

A special thanks to the League of Women Voters, Vacaville City Councilmember Sarah Chapman - District 4, Vacaville City Councilmember Jeanette Wylie - District 6, and City of Vacaville staff that helped bring this exciting opportunity to fruition.

With warmer weather bringing more bikes to the road, the Vacaville Police Department reminds everyone—drivers and cyclists alike—to stay alert and ride or drive responsibly.

In 2022 alone, over 1,100 bicyclists lost their lives and nearly 46,200 were injured. Let’s work together to change that.

👮‍♂️ This month, VPD is conducting focused traffic safety operations to protect cyclists and pedestrians.

Safety Tips:
🚗 For Drivers:
✅ Slow down, especially at intersections
✅ Watch for bikes before turning or opening your door
✅ Give at least 3 feet when passing cyclists
✅ Stay off your phone and never drive impaired

🚴 For Cyclists:
✅ Use lights at night
✅ Always wear a helmet (even if not required!)
✅ Ride with traffic, not against it
✅ Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks
Let’s all do our part to make Vacaville safer for everyone on the road!

Happy May 1st! 💚 It's Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to shine a light on the importance of mental wellness for our youth, mentors, families, and communities. Here at PAL, we believe strong minds build strong futures. One of our favorite ways to support mental health is through yoga, a practice that helps us slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with ourselves. Through mentorship, safe spaces, and trusted relationships, we’re building a support system where every young person feels seen, heard, and valued. Let's keep breaking the stigma, having real conversations, and reminding each other: it's okay to ask for help. 🧘💚

💚 - The green ribbon is the international symbol of mental health awareness symbolizing hope, renewal, and support for individuals facing mental health challenges.
