🩵 September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. 🎗️

Ovarian cancer is often called the “silent disease” because early signs can be hard to catch. But awareness and knowledge make a difference. 💡

👉 Family history and inherited genes like BRCA1 & BRCA2 can increase risk.
👉 Genetic testing is available – often covered by insurance – to help women understand their risk.

For Brian Gene Vikstrom, MD, hematology oncology isn’t just about treating conditions – it’s about building trust that lasts.

With over 10 years of experience, he cares for patients with both cancer and blood disorders at NorthBay Health, focusing on easing patient worries and guiding them every step of the way.

As Director of our Cancer Center’s clinical trials program, he also connects patients with promising new therapies through our affiliation with Stanford University and the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) consortium.

From anemia and sickle cell disease to cancer treatment and risk assessments, Dr. Vikstrom brings experience, empathy, and support to every patient.

But blood cancers can disrupt the system.

Kevin Clougherty, our Director of Operations who leads our Emergency, Critical Care, and Hospital Medicine teams, traded in a suit for a paddle at the Fairfield & Suisun Valley PPA Challenger, presented by Caymus-Suisun. 🎾

He competed in both men’s and mixed doubles at the amateur level and watched the pros and rising stars of pickleball square up. After 6.5 hours in the heat, Kevin earned a silver medal in the 3.5-3.99 mixed (50+) age division. 🥈

We’re proud to see the same resilience, focus, and teamwork that he brings to NorthBay Health every day shining through on the court. Congratulations! 💪

Our Women’s HOPE philanthropy group gathered at NorthBay Health for an evening filled with inspiration and connection. 💫

We opened the event with heartfelt words from Steering Committee Chair Katie Lydon, who reminded us that Women’s HOPE is more than events – it’s about health, opportunity, philanthropy, and engagement. She also shared how this group brings women together to make a difference in our communities.

One of the highlights was Dr. Herkanwal Khaira’s presentation on Women and Urology, which sparked meaningful conversation and left our members inspired.

It was a night of learning, laughter, and community – everything Women’s HOPE stands for. 💙💚

Meet Lacy DeQuattro, part of our NorthBay Health family since 2007!

She has worked in cardiology, helped expand our Simulation Center, and now serves as the Lead ED Tech and Trauma/Injury Prevention & Outreach Lead, focusing on keeping our community safe and informed.

Outside of work, she’s a mom of two, a small business owner, and a volunteer EMS coordinator. We’re proud to have her on our team!
