Distraction kills focus.

You’re trained to fight what you can see.

The suspect.
The chaos.
The violence in front of you.

But Scripture pulls the curtain back.

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood…”

This job will convince you the enemy is the person in front of you.

It’s not.
This is spiritual.

It’s the darkness behind it.
The brokenness driving it.
The evil that feeds on chaos, division, and destruction.

Bitterness.
Cynicism.
Anger.
Isolation.

Stay sharp.
Stay grounded.
Stay prayed up.

The battle you don’t see…is the one that will take you out.

We’re trained to observe chaos, read people, spot threats, study madness.

Scripture says:

“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41

Jesus is not talking about watching the streets. He is talking about watching ourselves.

The job exposes us to darkness for so long that it starts to feel normal… then it starts pulling on you.

Your spirit wants to do right.
Your flesh gets worn down.

Stay spiritually sharp.

Don’t just watch the world…watch yourself.
Pray.

Fear is part of this job. You see it.
You feel it.
Sometimes you carry it long after the call is over.
Scripture tells us:

“I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.” -Psalms 34:4

That doesn’t mean the job gets easier. It means you don’t face it by yourself.

The same mindset that makes you run toward chaos…needs to learn to run toward God too.

Not just on the worst calls.
Not just when it finally catches up.

Daily.

Seek Him like your life depends on it…because it does.

I used to move like Saul…watchful, aggressive, always questioning people’s intentions.

I looked out for people…but I didn’t trust them.

Now with God, I simply look out for people.

Saul was known for force.
Paul became known for grace.

God didn’t take the warrior out of me…He changed what I fight for.

Still alert.
Just more human.
Grateful
Hospitable
Humble

If He can change Saul…
He’s not done with me.
