Starting your therapy journey can be intimidating, so here are a few things you can expect during your first session with a therapist at LEAF!
1) Questions! Your therapist will ask you questions regarding things like family, work, school, relationships, stressors, symptoms, etc. These questions help us see your life from your perspective and experiences.
2) Goals! An important aspect of therapy is goal setting. What are you looking to gain from therapy? Skills to deal with stressors or symptoms? To process trauma? To learn about yourself? The possibilities are truly endless. Having goals ensures that you and your therapist can check-in on your progress and needs.
3) Clear communication! As a therapist, it’s important that we provide clear communication regarding things like confidentiality, the therapist-client relationship, and what to expect from therapy. Curating an environment where our clients feel safe to ask questions is critical!
