Dec. 20, 2025.
Just a date, right? Except if you happen to be a fan of the Vale High School girlsโ varsity basketball team, the day stands in cool reflection, a benchmark of sorts. For that is the last time the Lady Viksโ lost a game. That day, Henley High School defeated the Lady Viks 60-44.
The Lady Viks havenโt lost a game since. Instead, Vale amassed a 20-game winning streak after the loss, clobbering opponents and racking up unprecedented scoring binges as the team sliced through league play.
The closest game the Lady Viks encountered this season was a 31-27 triumph over Amity in early January in a non-league contest.
The Vikings (25-1) โ and ranked No. 1 in 3A โ will open state postseason play Thursday, March 5 at Marshfield High School in Coos Bay against No. 11-ranked Sutherlin (20-7). Tipoff will be at 2:30 p.m. MST, and the game can be viewed on the NFHS Network.
The Vikings showcase six seniors and stand at the precipice of registering for a championship season.
They are a team guided by understated head coach Randy Seals, who consistently redirects recognition toward his players while quietly downplaying his own steady record of success.
The players, Seals will tell you, are the focus. Not his coaching. Not his tactics. Instead, he points to the young women on the court or the bench as the engine that propels an opportunistic defense and offense.
On the season the Vikings scored 1,419 points while holding opponents to 713. Only two other teams โ No. 2-ranked Amity and No. 10 Taft โ scored more.
Individually, Lady Viks have been able to collect virtuoso performances from key players. Elli Jacobs averaged almost 11 points per game and logged a nearly 36% three-point scoring record over the season while teammate Kesley Stepleton averaged 15 points and over eight rebounds per game over the season.
In short, the Lady Viks are a well-rounded, focused group that expects victory when they step out on the court.
Yet, as Seals will tell you, there are no guarantees on the hardwood. Especially in the high-octane bubble of competition at state. Still, the odds โ based on statistics and history โ favor another run of victories for the Lady Vikings. Regardless of the final outcome, the 2025-2026 edition of the Vale High School girlsโ varsity basketball team has already notched a place in history behind a season of steady triumphs on the court.
